“a dream hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2005

We stayed at the Grand hotel Giessbach ( my family , friends and me ) on August. The hotel is the castle of the fairy tales. Big, but not impersonal.
We spent there three days but if we knew how beautiful it would be, we would have reserved for more days.
Everything was excellent: the bar with the piano, the billiard room, the tennis courts ( they do not charge neither the rackets, nor the court, everything is for free ), the swimming pool.
The internet access is, also, free.
The breakfast is very rich ( and if you want something more, let us say not hard boiled eggs, they prepare them for you, the way you prefer them ).
If you stay for three nights you can get a better price and if you stay for five nights even better.
There are so many things to do there, so you will not be bored. A hotel worth staying.

My 18 year son and I stayed for one night at GrandHotel Giessbach. We arrived late afternoon on a rainy day and when the weather cleared the next morning, wished we had booked another night. Although we had booked the least expensive room, my son commented that it was the nicest hotel he had ever stayed in. The hotel has a series of terraces that face the lake, with glaciated mountains at the end, and also border an incredible waterfall which is lit at night. The hike to successively higher sections of the waterfall an views over the lake was memorable.

There are clay tennis courts and a pool, which was not open when we were there. A piano player entertains guests in the lounge at 10pm.

We travelled by car, but it is possible to take a train to Brienz and a boat to the hotel.

Would definitely stay there again.

We spotted the Grand Hotel while enjoying a drive through the Interlaken region. It is perched on the side of a mountain and high above the lake. It can easily be reached by road, ferry and/or funicular. Giessbach Falls pass directly in front of the hotel creating a cool and peaceful environment. The hotel is expensive - you pay for the location. However, it's a unique experience. The rooms are old but clean and very large. We had a small terrace to enjoy views of the lake. It is not air conditioned but the falls create a very cool environment to sleep in. The dining is expensive but very good. They charge for internet access which is not made clear upon check-in. The pool area is old but a pleasant place to relax. There are spectacular walking and hiking trails to enjoy.
