From the moment you spot the hotel from the lake, you are transported back in time. This hotel was so beautiful! It felt like we were guests in a palace. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the falls. The bathroom was huge, and our room was spacious as well. We also enjoyed the espresso machine on the third floor. What a wonderful way to spend our last day in the mountains of Switzerland. The staff of the hotel were very friendly. We enjoyed our dinner at the resaurant, and the breakfast selection was the best we had on our ten day trip in Switzerland. We were so impressed with the beauty of this hotel, I would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the falls, the sound is wonderful!

This is a lovely old hotel, that would have been extremely majestic in its hey day.
the hotel is still wonderful now.
the staff were terrific & we were shown a few rooms that we could choose - which was really appreciated. We stayed on the third floor. The room was lovely & bright & we had a view of the waterfall.
I loved the idea of the coffee & juice machine on the 3rd floor. It is a good touch & guests do appreciate it.
We ate at the restaurant, & the desert I had was really delicious.
View is also a bonus.

My romantic single room overlooking the falls was lovely and I found the bed comfortable. I was on the 3rd floor and so was in the right place to partake in the help-your-self coffee bar and fruit basket facilities, open for everyone to use. A lovely touch! Breakfast is superb, with a huge choice. Half board meals in the restaurant were lovely, good value. Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful, something as a solo traveller, I value highly. I also had the impression they had a love for the old building and were almost privileged to be there to share with like minded people. The old building, is very grand, open and elegant. To think it was nearly demolished! Horrors! As to the surrounding, forest, mountain, lake, waterfall. All rooms must have a view. A hotel where one could/should spend time at the hotel and grounds to enjoy the walks and pool, with the exception of a day taking a ride down on the funicular for a relaxing boat ride on the turquoise waters of the Brienz. WiFi was available and free, but not available everywhere. I found no problem. The new connection being laid this winter will be a welcome addition but I can see it will not be the easiest job on the list this winter! A Christmas break at the hotel would be a fairy tale experience!

Room Tip: Waterfall noise is blocked out when windows are shut, but quite noisy when open. You will either love or hate it if you sleep with windows open. As it is a constant noise I actually found it relaxing despite being a poor sleeper!

Dear Carolyn
Good to hear you enjoyed your stay. Thank you very much!
Please allow me to add that Giessbach will unfortunately not be open for Christmas. Our historic hotel residence was, is and will be open only during the summer months.
This year we will close on 20 October. The 2014 season starts at Easter and we are looking forward to welcoming our guests again from Friday 18 April onwards. Best regards Matthias Koegl, manager

A deluxe property with it's own water fall, funicular and nature trails! View unparalleled. Excellent accommodation and service. The 3 course set meals were a gastronomic delight, kept coming back every night expecting to be surprised and we were!

We stayed at the Bellvue room on the 1st floor room which had a balcony with 270 deg view, directly facing the waterfall and also with a gorgeous view of the lake. The sound of the waterfall at night was another unique and recharging experience.

Great staff, personalized service - they know how to make you feel special. The only negative : wify doesn't work in the rooms and even in the restaurant it's a bit of a hit or miss.. we were completely cut off from the net for 3 days.. bit of a hassle if like me you rely on the net to chart out routes and plan the day ahead!

Overall, a 9/10 experience.

Dear Indygo005
Thank you very much for staying with us. Good to hear you enjoyed the hotel and the area!
We are pleased to tell you and all our guests that a fibre optic cable will be laid during the winter break. Not an easy undertaking considering our isolated hillside location.
As from 2014, all visitors will be able to access a fast and efficient WiFi!
Best regards Matthias Koegl, manager

If God were to take a vacation, He would stay at the Giessbach, sit on the patio, and admire his handy-work. It is that beautiful. If one appreciates natural beauty, good service, and a well-kept historical hotel, then the Giessback is the perfect fit.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the water fall and open the window. It may sound loud at first, but it is actually a calming influence when it's time for sleep.
