“This Place is a Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel Giessbach several times, the last time in 2012. It has got even better than it was, especially the breakfast. The last time we were there we were impressed to have a written note from the manager saying how pleased he was that we were staying there again. The lady in charge at reception was most hlelpful. I had had a tick bite and she phoned a doctor so that I could enquire as to the best method to proceed. The food in the restaurant Les Cascades has got better, and the service is very pleasant.
I saw this hotel before it was reopened and I can only say that Franz Weber deserves a lot of credit for having reopened it. I love the nostalgic feel of the place, together with modern conveniences. The only thing I would have liked in the rooms is the possibility to make tea or coffee, plus to have WiFi. We will certainly go there again.

I stayed at the Grandhotel Giessbach and I have to say it was a mesmerising experience. The views are spectacular.

We arrived via Boat and then Funicular. It is a WOW experience, no words can describe the experience. The weather was little overcast when we arrived, but the next day, was just breathtaking. The hotel, its backdrop, the waterfall and the lake!

Must be seen to be believed. Loved the dining experience as well. No formalities either or pomposity. You are are encouraged to be just you!

Hope this place stays the same and never changes.

Restored historic hotel from the golden age of tourism and grand hotels in the Swiss alps. The location is remote, towering on a ridge over Lake Brienz, next to the scenic Giessbach falls. Because of the isolated/remote location, the illusion of being at the turn of the century is almost believable, specially when arriving in style with the historic steamer from Interlaken and climb up in the old cable-car to the hotel. Because of the remote location it is not a good base for exploring the region for travelers without a car. Because of the scenic location, the hotel is also popular for weddings. We got married there and just went back for an anniversary week-end.

Room Tip: pay the extra for the lake or waterfall facing rooms.

Wow - almost came to tears as we drove around the bend up this very windy road and set our eyes on this amazing place! It is not done justice on their website or internet - but trust me you will not be disappointed. There is a funicular down to the lake and I think arriving by boat must be fabulous as the hotel stands amongst this forest and has a waterfall on the grounds. Stayed two nights - could have stayed forever. We dined in the restaurant and had a fabulous meal overlooking the waterfall (make a special request for a table with this view). Make sure you do the very short walk down tot he waterfall and take the funicular to the lake from the hotel. Fabulous. Can't wait to get back there one day. Try for a room with a lake view over forest - it is worth the extra cost. Rooms are not ultra modern by any stretch - but still comfortable.

Room Tip: Lake view is worth the extra

The view from our room was breathtaking, we could see both the cascade and the lake.
Even in the cold weather the place is amazing. The service very friendly and our stay - anniversary - wonderful.
It might not be the place to go if you are looking for ultra modern stay, with all comforts.
I quite enjoy this style

WE spent a few days in this hidden gem: wonderful location, great views, super with dog, incredible pool!! Great breakfast and dinner! The rooms are very romantic, but dark - as the whole building is somewhat dark and mystic. Unfortunately the staff is a little slow and unexperienced, but friendly.

This hotel is so sweet, the view is absolutely marvellous! We were there for a wedding of my friend in room 205 with a little balcony which opened up directly opposite the waterfall!
The noise, as great as it was, was very soothing to the ears and it's an incredible feeling to sleep with the sound of the waterfall cascading down outside your very window.

The cleanliness of the hotel has abit to be desired for, everything seems just a little bit dusty and a little bit run down. However, the rooms are very grand, super high ceilings, painted in gold, with all the carvings on the ceilings and columns. The view from the front entrance is simply breathtaking! Looking directly out of the lake at Interlaken (perhaps it was the Thunsee?) with the mountains on either side.

The road up is a bit unfortunate, very steep and very narrow. But it's well worth the trip. One can also walk up the waterfall and take hikes next to the hotel too. It's a very romantic little castle!

Room Tip: Take room 205 (but please double check) directly in front of the waterfall. Otherwise the lake facin...
