Super overall experience. We stayed in the Michael Cottage, which was well outfit with AC, Wifi, a washer/dryer, refrigerator, and bathroom toiletries. It met all of our needs for modern comfort, but surrounded by woods and the main garden. Meals were great -- on the few occasions my son couldn't find something appealing the kitchen staff accommodated his requests for something simple. Every day the naturalist staff offer a choice of morning and afternoon activities based on input from the guests. If you want to do something else, they can help you with that as well. The beach is a hike (2 miles form the lodge), but they run trucks there multiple times a day and offer bikes as well. There, too, they provide things you would pay extra for at other at other resorts: chairs, umbrellas, beach carts, toys, and even drinks. Best of all, it's 7 miles of beach for just you and your (at most) 31 fellow guests. Mosquitoes are an issue, but long sleeves/pants help and they provide sunscreen and bug repellent everywhere, including non-DEET formulas. Really, just pack your clothes and go.

Leave the City-Life behind and truly experience nature at it’s best. You’ll begin to realize the remoteness of Little St. Simons Island the moment you leave the dock as you are ferried over by boat for the next 10 mins. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greated by knowledgeable staff awaiting your arrival. From there, let the relaxation begin. You can do as little or as much as you desire: beach, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, reading a book, etc. The only non-optional is the gourmet prepared meals that you will be served Family-Style in the 2 dining rooms. As you enjoy your meal, you will mingle with the other guests (32 only), as the Naturalists share the Activities of the Day. There is a Social-Hour before dinner that is optional, of course. And, if you don’t care for what is planned on the menu, accommodations will be made. Case in point: I don’t eat Rack of Lamb, so one of the guests caught a Redfish that day, which the Chef deliciously prepared for me and a few others for dinner. That along with the home-made berry cobbler- it was wonderful. Birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated as all the guests sang and gave their congratulations. It was a lovely time and I plan to return. Only negative- Beware of the Mosquitos- they are everywhere so protective clothing is a must!

Enjoyable time on this private island
with delicious meals and responsive and knowledgable staff. Limited to a maximum of 32 overnight guests, the opportunities for both privacy and social interaction abound. We shared 7 miles of pristine beaches with less than 20 others. We also enjoyed bird-watching from established blinds enhanced by a knowledgeable and entertaining naturalist.

The Naturalist on the island make the trip! My husband and I will return during a different season to see and experience new aspects of the island. Their enthusiasm for their particular area of research makes learning fun. We were also very relieved to find very few (2 while we were there) children. Since I am a teacher I try to vacation away from kids :)

Room Tip: look at the website and pick the correct one for your needs

Thank you very much for staying with us and sharing your experience. I agree, our Naturalists are a highlight of any visit to LSSI. As an educator, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed learning more about our ecosystem from them. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

It is like camp for grown ups!!
We biked, skifffed, kayaked, walked the beach, saw a 12 ft alligator named Norm and armadillos (live ones!!), snakes, birds (painted buntings and roseat spoonbills!!), collected sea shells, met fascinating people and had fabulous meals!!
The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The kitchen staff was extremely accommodating and considerate of dietary needs.
