Description: Welcome to Bennie's Red Barn, the oldest privately owned restaurant on Saint Simon's Island! Nestled between beautiful live oaks, Bennie's has been a favorite of locals and tourists since 1954. No visit to the Golden Isles is complete without a visit to Bennie's! At the Red Barn you can enjoy steaks grilled to perfection over an old-fashioned open oak flame, seafood, chicken, or spaghetti in a classic, family-friendly setting. If you had visited us back in 1954, you would have enjoyed the best steak and seafood served in the Golden Isles. Some things never change! Our steaks are still cut fresh and cooked over an old-fashioned wood fire and our fresh, local seafood is brought in daily. The Club at Bennie's is a rustic, indoor and outdoor venue located just next door to the Barn. Enjoy a cocktail at our famous TREEBAR or watch the game on either of the 2 big screens. Two outdoor fireplaces and multiple heaters will keep you warm in the winter while the ice cold beer, ceiling fans, and AC will cool you in the summer. The Club is southern casual and ready for your party, but we can help you gussie it up for a more formal event. Experience an Island tradition at Bennie's Red Barn! We look forward to serving you soon.

If you've never been, you won't want to miss it. A standard salad comes with the meal - the au gratin and steaks are my favorite - but where else can you get a side of spaghetti with your steak?

“Bennies - worth the trip from Canada”
Reviewed March 22, 2010

I dine at Bennies 4-5 times a year and am never disappointed! It is first rate in every way. I don't understand these sour reviews - perhaps rival restaurants. The steaks and fried chicken are out of this world. The service is first class ask for Rosalind,Chip or David. I celebrate my birthday each March at the Red Barn and always get the t-bone. Take it from a man who loves a great meal BENNIES is the PLACE!

PS the opening salad and rolls are to die for

“Great Experience!”
Reviewed March 17, 2010

This winter, we decided to give Bennie's a try despite the poor reviews because so many locals around town told us to go there. It's a really cool "old barn", but the fire in the huge fireplace kept us warm (it's so big they even burn whole trees in it) We were ready to give it our strictest critique due to reviews on trip advisor: BUT could not find a thing wrong. Our waiter gave us very professional service, we read the menu that is posted outside the door, so we knew what to expect....their prices are in line with other steakhouses, we're in the food business so we know how expensive a good cut of beef is these days, but my husbands steak was huge & juicy, he said one of the best he'd ever eaten. I had the grilled salmon, which was nothing fancy but it was fresh, simply cooked over the grill. With a laugh, we tried their Raccoon for dessert, it's an "adult milkshake" and we learned from the manager (who by the way, came by twice during visit) that the Red Barn is still family owned. We are in the restaurant business, so we know what we're talking about, and these folks have a fine establishment, it's hard to beileve people have not enjoyed themselves there. Oh, & if people bothered to read the history on the menu (yes, there were menus) they'd realize the salad is a 56 year old tradition & SUPPOSE to be wilted & marinated in olive oil and garlic, if you don't like garlic ask for a different salad as I did, our server was happy to replace my house salad with what he called a dry salad. We will go back the next time we go to St. Simons, sure it's not a fancy gourmet, corporate run restaurant like Bonefish, but you can eat at those places anywhere, Bennie's is unique landmark and they fill up you plate with excellent food.

“Great restaurant”
Reviewed August 14, 2009

Bennie's Red Barn is a great spot on St Simons Island. Years ago, it was originally a dinner club. Even now, to visit there, its not unusual to see the older locals "dressed" for dinner, in jacket and tie, although the place is much more casual than years ago. The crab newburg is fantastic! Known more for their fire grilled steaks, they still serve up good seafood. The atmosphere is great, steaks are high quality. Crab Newburg is my entree of choice. The service is impreccable. Several of the wait staff have been there for many years and are well known by patrons. If on St Simons, visit Bennie's.

“Tourist Trap --- lots of atmosphere and bad food & service”
Reviewed May 4, 2009

I have gone to St. Simons on and off for 25 years and this place was good once upon a time. For the last 3 years the food has declined a lot. The cuts of meat are low grade and hard to chew - you are better off at Publix. The salads are soaked in overdone garlic dressing. IF you like your lettuce limp and swimming in oil this is the place. The baked potato is cool zero, cooked in foil with nothing, and you have to ask for butter and sour cream... the butter is in those little foil packets - really nice! They dont offer any other things on the side. The service motto must be " this would be a great place to work if it were not for the customers" - they do not make your meal a pleasure, you are just one more tourist to rip off. The sea food was less than marginal too and getting your food hot is not something to count on. The bread - you could do better at a convenience store. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING.... YOU CAN TALK TO THE MANAGEMENT AND THEY GOT PLENTY OF EXCUSES... IT IS CLEAR THAT DEEP DOWN QUALITY IS NOT ON THE AGENDA. TOO BAD.
