Description: Welcome to Bennie's Red Barn, the oldest privately owned restaurant on Saint Simon's Island! Nestled between beautiful live oaks, Bennie's has been a favorite of locals and tourists since 1954. No visit to the Golden Isles is complete without a visit to Bennie's! At the Red Barn you can enjoy steaks grilled to perfection over an old-fashioned open oak flame, seafood, chicken, or spaghetti in a classic, family-friendly setting. If you had visited us back in 1954, you would have enjoyed the best steak and seafood served in the Golden Isles. Some things never change! Our steaks are still cut fresh and cooked over an old-fashioned wood fire and our fresh, local seafood is brought in daily. The Club at Bennie's is a rustic, indoor and outdoor venue located just next door to the Barn. Enjoy a cocktail at our famous TREEBAR or watch the game on either of the 2 big screens. Two outdoor fireplaces and multiple heaters will keep you warm in the winter while the ice cold beer, ceiling fans, and AC will cool you in the summer. The Club is southern casual and ready for your party, but we can help you gussie it up for a more formal event. Experience an Island tradition at Bennie's Red Barn! We look forward to serving you soon.

“Old South service; excellent food - not to be missed!”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

This restaurant I learned has been around since 1955. Though the decor is casual, the wait staff is dressed with ties and vests or jackets, have been there many years and do not have to write down an order - at least not for a table of two. The prices are moderate to down right reasonable. Though they will give you a menu the waiter (Gordon) knew it by heart and was also the pastry chef. He'll offer suggestions and even tell you how the dishes are prepared - he was a rookie with the restaurant having only been there for 8 years. I ordered the salmon once he let me know that it was Alaskan salmon, so obviously, wild caught. It was fresh and my piece probably weighed in at at least 22-24 ounces. My buddy had the grilled chicken and could not eat it all - it was a whole chicken! Including 1 appetizer and 1 desert the total price without tip came in at under $60 - no alcohol though it is readily available.

I would think that this restaurant is suitable for everything from families with young'ish children to large parties. I highly recommend it when you are in the St Simons area!

“Good reputation but average food with good service”
Reviewed October 5, 2012 via mobile

Ate there Oct 3 early evening date of presidential debate so it was not crowded. Had a group of 12. The server presents an oral menu as there is not a menu. The menu is extensive. I had fried shrimp which was average. Our dining partners had steaks over 1 in thickness.
There was a single older gentleman who went to each table which had large groups and sang hymns soul music solo. Also he had table participation. Overall we had a good time. Appears they cater to groups of various sizes.

“Great Experience”

The atomsphere and staff are very unique. The food was delicious. The menu is verbal so it is hard to decide what to order know what you are paying.
