I think this garden, across the street from Ft. Frederica, is one of the more beautiful and calming places in the region. I'm a horticulture professor, and I was amazed at the beauty. If you are in the area, any time of the year (we were here in late December, probably the worst time to visit a garden and it was still beautiful) I encourage you to visit.

This cross memorial in a tranquil garden setting is located on land diagonally across from the entrance to Fort Frederica National Memorial and next door to Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica.

The inscription reads:
To the glory of God and in memory of
The Reverend John Wesley 1703-1791
and The Reverend Charles Wesley 1707-1785
The Reverend John Wesley, M.A. Fellow, Lincoln College, Oxford
Priest of the Church of England
Appointed missionary to the Colony of Georgia, February 1736 to December 1737
Ministered on occasion at Frederica
Founder of Methodism
Leader in the Evangelical Revival

They both preached under oak trees believed to be at the present site of Christ Church, a historic Episcopal church down the road at 6329 Frederica Road. One oak in front of the church is labeled the Wesley Oak with a historic marker.

Also, en route to this location, one will pass Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens at 5775 Frederica Road.

With several related attractions within a short distance of each other, one can easily spend an entire day in this area of St. Simons Island exploring the history of the town and fort and the roots of Methodism.

On my visit, I spent about 20 minutes in the garden here.

Here is the link to a website that is as close as one can get to an official website for this attraction: http://www.exploresouthernhistory.com/wesleymemorial.html
