Owner description: Come take the "Best Trolley Tour- 2017" on Saint Simons Island according to our guests and the locals as they have elected our tour as the BEST! View it for yourself in Elegant Island Living Magazine. Serving Glynn County since 2011, take a fun historic tour on "William of Orange" the only air conditioned and wheelchair accessible trolley on the island that is locally owned and operated. Visit more of the island and hear more of the history in a 90 minute tour. We go everywhere the other tours go and also into areas the other tours don't take you to share more of the history of the island. Boarding times are 10am and 12pm daily (10am boarding only on Sundays). Open 7 days a week. We board in Pier Village at the end of Mallery St by the blue Sunbrellas right next to the Pier on the very south end of the island. We will be closed July 19th - August 2nd. We will re-open August 3rd.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Stairs / elevator

On November 20, my husband and I drove to St. Simons Island, GA to sightsee. Whenever we visit historic cities or sites, we take tours to get an overview picture and decide what we might want to explore in more detail later on. We signed up for a 75-minute tour with Saint Simons Colonial Island Trolley Tours, guided by a very personable Captain Rod. It was the best tour we've taken; we couldn't have asked for more. Unlike most tours we've taken, Captain Rod actually stopped long enough for us to get some decent pictures. His knowledge of the island's history and it's people, both in pre-Revolutionary War days and today, is phenomenal. Since we were the last tour of the day, he took us to Christ Church, where we got off the trolley and toured the church and graveyard. It was the first church on St. Simons, built in 1820. Partially destroyed during the Civil War, it was rebuilt in 1886 and it is a beautiful and amazing piece of architecture. Our 75-minute tour was actually 2 hours and it was above and beyond our expectations. It is a "Must Do" when you visit the Island.

Captain Rod is so personable and informative. We called first to ensure wheelchair accessibility since we couldn't see an example of that on the website and that was a factor in us choosing this tour. The William of Orange has an elevator lift that raises the wheelchair and occupant right into the bus. Special wheelchair tie-downs lock the wheelchair into place once loaded onto the bus. We were waiting when "William" pulled into the pickup spot and Captain Rod greeted us like old friends. He stood with us and shared extra tidbits of island info while the 1/2 hour loading time passed. If you want to take the 12 o'clock tour and you suddenly realize it's 12:15pm, no worries...there is a 1/2 hour loading time after the tour start time. So the trolley doesn't actually depart until 12:30pm.

This outfit has been operating for less than one year (as of Dec 2013), but there is nothing "newbie" about them. Rod is very well informed and makes the history of the island come alive. I can't wait to go back to some of the spots he pointed out to us and explore on our own.

As a matter of interest, when I first called Captain Rod, I also asked whether they accepted credit cards. They do. You will incur a very small credit card fee on one of your party's tickets ($3 as of Dec 2013). In other words, a party of four would have a credit card charge of $83 rather than $80 if paid in cash. Well worth the convenience though we were able to access our bank on-island and get cash for no ATM charge.

Thank you Captain Rod for providing an activity that was friendly for all members of our family.

My husband and I took this tour and loved it. Very entertaining and well worth the money. We learned so much about the island. Captain Rod was great. Add this to your list of things to do when visiting the island.
