Captain Rod is so personable and informative. We called first to ensure wheelchair accessibility since we couldn't see an example of that on the website and that was a factor in us choosing this tour. The William of Orange has an elevator lift that raises the wheelchair and occupant right into the bus. Special wheelchair tie-downs lock the wheelchair into place once loaded onto the bus. We were waiting when "William" pulled into the pickup spot and Captain Rod greeted us like old friends. He stood with us and shared extra tidbits of island info while the 1/2 hour loading time passed. If you want to take the 12 o'clock tour and you suddenly realize it's 12:15pm, no worries...there is a 1/2 hour loading time after the tour start time. So the trolley doesn't actually depart until 12:30pm.
This outfit has been operating for less than one year (as of Dec 2013), but there is nothing "newbie" about them. Rod is very well informed and makes the history of the island come alive. I can't wait to go back to some of the spots he pointed out to us and explore on our own.
As a matter of interest, when I first called Captain Rod, I also asked whether they accepted credit cards. They do. You will incur a very small credit card fee on one of your party's tickets ($3 as of Dec 2013). In other words, a party of four would have a credit card charge of $83 rather than $80 if paid in cash. Well worth the convenience though we were able to access our bank on-island and get cash for no ATM charge.
Thank you Captain Rod for providing an activity that was friendly for all members of our family.
