“New place to eat”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

This was our first visit to this fairly new place in St. Simons. It had a rocky start when the waitress came out with a shrimp appetizer that every customer was getting for free. She explained that there was a lot of it left from the weekend's shrimp & grits festival on Jekyll Island. Well, we could see why there was a lot left. The shrimp were a little bit "chewy", and it had a lot of cilantro in it. Just not my taste. But then she brought our fried shrimp, and it was DELICIOUS. Very crispy and a little bit on the salty side. We've only had the one dish there, but it was very good food. The menu was a little bit limited, I thought.

“Thumbs Up!”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

This place is relatively new on SSI...just opened this year. Its a lttle crowded and noisy but I had the BEST fried shrimp I have ever had. It breading is very light which allows for me of the shrimp flavor to seep through. My husband had the BBQ pork chop and it was so soft and moist. It almost tasted more like steak than a pork chop. We will definitely return on our next trip to SSI.

“A Very Good Place”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

The Half Shell opened this year in the Village area of the island. As a resident, I am always eager to try new places with the hope that they won't just be a place catering to the tourist crowd with no care for food quality or service. It is definitely not that. It will certainly draw tourists due to it's location, but it should be around for a long time as the quality of food and service has been quite consistently good. It's a small place and can be noisy. The decor is a tad beachy consistent with the theme of the place, but it's always quite clean and welcoming. The food is excellent, and the raw bar has managed to stay stocked with nice sized and consistently fresh oysters. It's not haute cuisine, but it's a nice place to grab a well priced meal.

“Great new restuarant - pleasantly surprised!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We have been coming to SSI for years and glad to find this new restaurant! The service was great, the atmosphere was casual which was great since beach vacations are meant to be casual! The mandarin and strawberry salad with blackened mahi-mahi was graet - filling but not over filling -- light and refreshing for the hot summer night! My brother in law's shrimp and grits was the best he's had in years! The service was really good and the wait staff was more than friendly! We plan on going back at least one more time before our family vacation ends...and we'll definitely add this place to our list of "must go to" places when in town!

“Great new restaurant”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We were looking for outside seating and stopped by during happy hour. The service was great. The shrimp appetizer was special. The salad was not as good, but our entrees were excellent. The location makes this a perfect little stop.
