If you plan to fish, go to the pier. If not, I wouldn't go out of your way. You can also get some nice pictures of the local lighthouse from there as well.

The pier has been recently re-done and lacks most of the mutilation found on other piers after years of catching and cutting up fish and bait. The pier was full of people fishing when we were there but it was also still a pleasant place to walk for a better view of St. Simons Sound and ocean beyond.

While during the day the pier has some families and couples walking around to look at the dolphins hopping in and out of the surf, at night, it's packed. At night it's like a fishermen's convention. The pier is hopping with people setting up lines and you can see them reel in all of their catches. On the nights we were there, everyone seemed to be catching baby sharks, which were fascinating to look at.

My wife and I walked on the pier at night. It was a bit crowded but it was nice. A lot of people fishing and we did see some dolphins. It is a nice place to walk to if you eat in the area and want to walk some of it off!

I've always liked there is no fee for this pier like at other beaches. The people on the pier are always very friendly. The views are amazing and we saw dolphins from the pier everyday. Very fun place to hangout.
