A few walls of the fort and a cannon (plus two others of the appropriate vintage brought from other sites) are at the edge of Frederica River. Behind the fort itself is an extensive area that has been excavated revealing the foundations of many buildings and streets which made up one of the first British settlement sites in the Southern US during the reign of George the First. Here they repelled a Spanish attack which is depicted in a 20 minute movie shown in the museum where various artifacts are on display.

We had a great time visiting Ft. Frederica and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The participate in the Jr. Ranger Badge program and my 7 year old enjoyed. Allow around 2 hrs for your visit.

Only negative is that I think we visited at the peak of biing fly season - bring your bug spray!

I took 11 high school students to Fort Frederica as part of a history tour of the area and we all really enjoyed it. There is very little staff support there, so we did a self-guided tour, but the map and literature are enough to direct you through well.

This is well worth a visit, to see how the settlers lived and read how they progressed to become part of America and how they fought off the Spanish - very interesting.

My wife and I enjoyed the film about this place and enjoyed walking the grounds. They were beautiful and the history was interesting.
