We had a great time visiting Ft. Frederica and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The participate in the Jr. Ranger Badge program and my 7 year old enjoyed. Allow around 2 hrs for your visit.

Only negative is that I think we visited at the peak of biing fly season - bring your bug spray!

“Great place to visit for some great history”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

I took 11 high school students to Fort Frederica as part of a history tour of the area and we all really enjoyed it. There is very little staff support there, so we did a self-guided tour, but the map and literature are enough to direct you through well.

“Excellent to step back in time”

This is well worth a visit, to see how the settlers lived and read how they progressed to become part of America and how they fought off the Spanish - very interesting.

“Great History but too many bugs”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

We visited this place while on vacation on St. Simon's, and it was a really interesting historical place. I was quite surprised to find out that John and Charles Wesley landed here with Oglethorpe. To see the layout of the old town and the fort was really a glimpse back into what it must have been like for the early settlers of this area. But there so many yellow flies and other bugs flying around, landing on you, and biting you that it was just uncomfortable to visit. Perhaps there are better times of the year to visit that would make it worthwhile, but not in May. I would truly like to come back and complete the tour if there is a less buggy time. But not otherwise.I gave it an average rating because of the bugs. The place itself is worth visiting, bugs made it miserable. I would have given it an excellent rating if not for them.
