Description: Halyards on St. Simons has been redefining Island Cuisine for 11 popular years. The Island's unrivaled see-and-be-seen dinner spot for locals who know and for coastal visitors who've heard that the Seared Tuna with a Plum Wine Reduction and the Prime N.Y. Strip with Soy Lime Butter will make your evening. That's not to say you should skip the Creamy Blue Crab Bisque or the nightly specials. The atmosphere is casually elegant (coozy lounge furniture in the courtyard and under the awning), the welcome warm (usually by name), the service crisp and attentive, the wine cellar vast (7 Wine Spectator Awards) and the comfortable bar hip and hopping. The menu is the brilliant handiwork of Chef/Owner Dave Snyder that changes nightly and is bold, creative and gloriously rewarding. To be sure you're pleased, Dave roams the front of the house for comments when he's not out fishing for your dinner. As you would expect at a restaurant of Halyards' caliber, reservations are a good idea.

Another restaurant that locals recommended to me and my husband. Did not disappoint! My husband had the red snapper and I had the braised short ribs and a scrumptious beet salad. They also helped us retrieve our credit card the following morning when we realized we had left on the table! Cannot recommend the Halyard food or staff enough.

Recently ate here to celebrate our anniversary with another couple. Started out with a Martini. They make a real tasty martini here....definitely a good start. We shared 2 appetizers, the homemade bacon and pork dumplings. Both were very tasty. For mains we had the hanger steak, short ribs, shrimp and grits and fish. Everyone loved their meal. Finished off with some apple dessert with cinnamon ice cream. The server was very friendly and service was excellent. Price was $200 including wine. This is the #1 place to eat on SSI. Highly recommended.

Felt like I was at a roller rink. Seated near the kitchen we were in the flow of traffic. Never stopped. Our waitress had far too many tables. No nice greeting. No eye contact. The manager asked us to move to a smaller table so he could seat a table of four. He would Comp the first drink and appetizer. We said yes, and then he didn't need our table. Food creative and ambitious but not great.

Ambiance very attractive. Lots of young people which is always fun.

If you go don't sit near the kitchen door.

DW and I had dinner here in mid January 2014. I had their "potsticker" appetizer and it was really excellent... very savory, tangy sauce... like the normal good potsticker sauce but with the addition of some citrus juice that really went well with the usual vinegar, sesame flavors. Then I had the short ribs which fell off the bone and were in a rich, flavorful sauce. The "potato croquette" was nothing to get excited about... it had a slight flavor of cheese which was good... but it was so slight that it mostly just tasted like straight potato with a fried crust. The green beans were OK but nothing extra about them that normal good green beans don't have. My wife had the pan seared grouper cake... It was OK, but it supposedly came with roasted brussels sprouts and they were "fragmented" into "thin skins" of brussels sprouts, not whole or even halves like you would expect. They were hardly present, in fact. So this review is "mixed" in that there were some good things and some "ordinary things" that you would not expect in a restaurant of this caliber and price. Would I go there again? Yes, to try other things, as we only had the above items and a "sampling of one time there" is not a reliable statistic.

Dave Snyder, the chef and proprietor of Halyards is walking through the dining room every night, greeting the regulars and giving his adoring lady fans a peck on the cheek! (He's not only the sweetest guy on St Simons Island he's also involved with many local charities, generous but shy! ) This is an all round fabulous guy, running an all round fabulous restaurant. With a vaguely nautical note in the sophisticated decor, this restaurant has the very best fish in the county if not the country! Try the special catch of the day!especially if it's the local trigger fish, or grouper or halibut or snapper or ? You cannot go wrong here! And start with tuna tartare or the pot stickers!! Amazing! Take it from someone who use to dine at Charlie trotters once a month....Halyard's is exceptional: friendly, relaxed, with ultra elegant, unadulterated food exquisitely prepared. We go every week. It's a treat every time!
