“Great Location”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

This is about the fourth time I have stayed at the King and Prince. It is a very nice facility, well maintained, family-friendly with proximity to and beautiful views of the beach. They have a nice, friendly concierge, a relatively secluded location on a lovely resort island, and are about a mile from the local town center. There is a helpful concierge who can direct you to the many historic and recreational attractions in the area. Good parking, nice pool. A few small meeting rooms for small conferences or meetings. Nice place! Oh - there are about 4 tennis courts, golf nearby and a small but workable gym with three treadmills and two ellipticals and a few free weights.

Room Tip: The main building facing the ocean has the best views.

We stayed at this resort before, in one of their ocean "part sea view" villas (2 bed) and loved it: spacious, beautiful balcony and good service.

This time, we had opted initially for a ocean from cabana room: however, this was quite expensive and we found it small and claustrophobic; we could also hear the neighbour quite clearly. following a complaint, we were moved to a 2 bed villa, part ocean view, and it was again perfect.

The King & Prince property adjoins the beach and it is a wonderful place to stay: you can just walk out onto the beach and you are not that far from the village centre.

Cleaners were excellent, although maintenance staff were a bit hit and miss in turing up.

Room Tip: Check your room specification carefully. The 2 bed apartments were perfect.

Thank you so much for your recent visit to The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort and specially for taking the time to write a Trip Advisor review. Although we are sorry that you did not find the Cabana Room to your liking it is good to know that we were able to satisfy your request to move to an Ocean view Villa. The location of the hotel is perfect for guests who enjoy walking on the beach as wells as all activities available on St. Simons Island. We appreciate your comments about our staff and have already shared your review with them. Thank you for your visit and come back very soon.

My wife & stayed here for a night on a Groupon deal. While our room was "ocean view" it was actually in a separate building from the main building, across a parking lot from the ocean. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. There isn't much to the beach (which is the case for most of St. Simons). Don't go expecting white sands, blue water, etc. Sand is hard packed but its still the beach! We were there in February, so we didn't swim, but the pool area looked great, featuring a couple of different pools, kiddy pool/mushroom, etc. Swings along the shoreline provide a great place to relax with your partner and watch the waves crash in while enjoying the breeze. Location is away from the Village part of town, but within walking distance of Crabdaddys (awesome dinner, see separate review) & the Crab Trap. I would recommend the King & Prince to others, but at the right price. This place carries a lot more prestige ($$) by name vs. actual amenities. They were in the middle of some remodeling in the lobby when we were there, but don't expect top notch luxury when you visit.

Room Tip: Make sure you study the property and its separate buildings. Not all rooms are contained in the sam...

Thank you for taking the time out to review The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort. We are committed to provide excellent service and great accommodations to our guests and we appreciate your positive comments about our facility. As the number two ranked property on Saint Simons Island, we are proud to offer many services and amenities to our guests. I mention this only because you commented on the lack of top hotel luxury. We are not and have never claimed to be a five star property. However, as you experienced during your visit, we continue to renovate and update many areas of the property each winter. This is our commitment to continually improve the guest experience at The King and Prince. We look forward to your next visit when you can enjoy the completion of our current project.

There were 34 of us on this trip. Hotel location was convenient - easy walking distance to shopping area. Remodeling is currently in progress at the hotel so some rooms you have to detour around construction equipment to get to. Our room was a corner on 4th floor adjacent to construction of lobby area - thus noisy in the mornings. Room was beautiful and spacious with wonderful view of pools, beach and ocean. Bar was a nice gathering area. We had private breakfasts and a dinner that were buffet and very tasty. Also an omelet station. The staff at meals was OUTSTANDING!!! Took very good care of us. Coffee 'shop' in lobby area was not well staffed. Had to wait for someone from the bar to serve us and they didn't really know how to make the special coffees. Overall would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from construction area - give up quiet and privacy on balcony.

Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean, but a variety of problems including a short in the bathroom lights, inadequate hot water and water pressure, defrosting refrigerator and subsequent flooding, sheets that did not fit the bed, and replacement glasses that were dirty and broken. In each case, responses were slow and minimal. For example, it took two days of complaining to get a minimally adequate flow of hot water. We ate breakfast twice in the restaurant and found it to be quite inferior to what was available in town--mediocre food and terrible service. Construction that was virtually next to our room began each morning by 8:00 a.m. In general, there seemed to be little interest in the care and comfort of customers. I would certainly stay away from this facility.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at the King and Prince. We are serious about all reviews especially those very few that indicate we have not met the expectations of our guests which is our primary goal. We sincerely apologize for the challenges you experienced with our restaurant during your last visit and your comments have been shared with the appropriate manager. We are making major changes in our Food and Beverage Department to address the few inconsistencies we have in service, food and quality. That in conjunction with our major renovation project proves that we really do care about the comfort of our guests. Unfortunately in your case we did not achieve this expectation and once again accept our apologies for that.

We got a great deal on an oceanfront room. Could be because it was early March. Our room was in the oceanfront building on the first floor. You could see the ocean by looking past the pool. The pool area is not big so there was a great view. The room had a private patio, great for sitting on in the morning and drinking the in room coffee. Room had been redone and was very comfortable. Bathroom was small and kinda odd but I guess they had to work with the space they had. Room was clean and had everything you would need. Small couch and coffee table and a work table and chairs made it a little nicer than just a hotel room. Big TV and small fridge also. We had one lunch at the hotel restaurant because it has a great oceanview. Hamburger was completey raw and had to be returned which the waitress handled nicely and a supervisor also came by the table. It was taken off the bill without any issues.

Room Tip: It was nice to be able to walk out to the pool but view would have been better on a higher floor.

We appreciate your recent visit to The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort and for taking the time to fill out a Trip Advisor report. All our Ocean Front rooms are very popular with many of our guests since they provide an amazing view of the water. I am glad that the Restaurant Supervisor provided a satisfactory solution to your experience in the King’s Tavern. Thank you and we look forward to your return.

It had been many years since we stayed at the King and Prince but it has maintained its grandeur. We stayed in a historic room which was extremely roomy. The location on the beach and reasonably convenient to Kings Village is nice. If you grow tired of the beach, the pool complex is stunning!
