We wanted a relaxing beach getaway close to home where we could enjoy the warm gentle breeze and the sound of rolling waves. The King & Prince is only 1 1/2 hours away from Jacksonville, FL. When we arrived at the resort, our room was not ready (we were 5 hours early), so we changed into our bathing suits and sat by the beach-side pools and absorbed the sun's rays. The hotel had the old charm of the south. The grounds were beautiful, the lobby was subtle and the people were friendly. After lunch from the pool bar, we checked into our Cabana Room in the Historic Building. The room was ideal. We had french doors that opened up onto a private patio overlooking the ocean. The breeze came in from the water and filled the room with its salty bliss. The bed was lush and the furnishings were elegant. The only thing missing was a small fridge for storage of cool refreshments. The room was spotlessly clean as one would expect. We were so happy with the hotel that we opted to eat at the hotel's restaurant, The Blue Dolphin. We had Surf & Turf. The food was pricey, but delicious. The steak was no Ruth's Chris, but it was still tendor and had great flavor. All in all the hotel made our vacation exactly what we wanted it to be. Friendly staff, beautiful surroundings and a healthy portion of serenity made our "Baby Moon" vacation a success!

The King and Prince is a great getaway from it all hotel. There is not too much going on at the hotel and in the town but that is why I love it. When you want to get away from it all just and spend alone time with your significant other... go here!

We always have a fantastic stay at this King and Prince. I'm sort of shocked at the negative reviews. We stayed in the ocean view, king room. Absolutely georgeous! We even had the door open (in Dec) and heard the waves crashing all night long. Very calming. We had a small hallway which led to the large bathroom. Very beautiful. The indoor pool was just the right temp for our 5 year old. The workout room had several upscale treadmills, one very nice ski machine, plus a huge HDTV to watch as you worked out. They have 2 clay tennis courts to use for no additional charge. The doorman always opened the door and greeted us with a smile. The buffet breakfast had a min of 30 selections, which included crepes. To us, the beach was beautiful. We love this place and will always choose to stay here.

We stayed at the K&P Oct 20-22nd. We had heard fabulous things about it, but were generally disappointed with our stay. The "partial ocean view" room ($209) was located in a building away from the main hotel, a full block away from the ocean. We were on the first floor and there was absolutely no ocean view. The room itself was nice, comfortable, and pleasant. But it should be lumped in with the "standard rooms" ($189) since it's not part of the main building and there certainly was no ocean view (partial or otherwise).

We ate at the Dolphin restaurant one evening and had an awful meal. First. we arrived around 9:30pm on a Sunday. We did not know they closed at 10pm because no one from the staff told us. The waitress was extremely sullen and unfriendly and we couldn't figure out why (I guess b/c we were there so late?). About halfway through our totally mediocre meal, she comes up and asks if we want dessert. Since we weren't even done eating our main course we thought it was odd and declined. After finishing up, we asked for the desert menu- only to be told the kitchen was closed. Would it have been so hard to just tell us the kitchen was closing so we could have decided if we wanted something to go? The food was mediocre and the "entrees" were totally odd in that they didn't come with any side items. So my husband had a piece of fish, nothing else on his plate. And I had a few scallops, nothing else. Sides, apparently, are optional and extra.

The hotel premises are ok. The pool is quite nice and the view of the ocean is also pretty (although all the beaches were covered in sea weed- so much you couldn't even see the sand. And quite the sea weed stench!). But for the price you are paying for the room, you are much better off going to the Jekyll Island Club on the next island. In sum, the K& P was a nice room, but overpriced and you could find better value for your money somewhere else.

During the month of September, 2007, I had reservations for myself and my wife and for my son, his wife and their three children, ages 6, 8, and 10, at the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort, St Simons Island, GA. Myself and my wife stayed four nights in an ocean front room while my son and his family stayed three nights in a villa.
Our ocean front room had a lovely view and the sliding glass doors provided us with easy access to the beach. The table and chairs on the patio allowed for relaxing sessions while reading the free newspaper and drinking coffee with the coffee maker provided with the room.
My son’s villa was absolutely outstanding. In fact one of my grandchildren made the comment that they could “stay there forever”. One of the several hotel swimming pools and hot tubs were located right outside their patio that the children used every evening. If we left them they would have swam through the whole night. During the day lots of use was made of the other pools and the excellent beach that fronts the resort.
The restaurants were great. Food throughout the whole resort was prepared to perfection. One of the highlights of our visit was the breakfast buffet. Our visits to this buffet were enjoyed by both adults and children.
Housekeeping was prompt and effective.
We vacation once a year and have stayed in many resorts along the South Carolina and Florida Coasts. Overall I would say the King and Prince is the resort that we enjoyed most of all. In fact we are already discussing a possible return next year.
