A very beautiful hotel with great service.

Expensive but there was a special on SniqueAway dot com. (It's pronounced "Sneak Away"). A $350 room for $225 special. Or some rooms for $189.

We stayed in the Jekyll Suite which is on the 3rd floor and a corner room with a great view. Probably all the rooms are great but the corner was nice.

Lots of extras like robes, slippers, bicycles, and made to order breakfast.

When we came for breakfast the hostess who had never seen us before greeted us by name and while we ate someone cleaned the room. There was a video camera in the hall outside the room. It was slightly surprising to be addressed by name but it shows attention to detail. Maybe It helped that we were off season with not a lot of guests. We felt very welcomed.

The only drawback I can think of, is that the pictures showed a kitchen. I brought food to prepare dinner one night, but there was no oven. Microwave yes, cooktop yes, dishwasher yes, full fridge yes, coffee pot, dishes, & wine glasses yet. Just no oven.

The hotel at night time is stunning with all the lighting and gas fireplace. The open air restaurant is on the 4th floor within sight and sound of the ocean. Service in the restaurant was on the slow side but then who's in a hurry? Food and drink specials. There was a $15 dinner on Tuesday that featured salad, entree, and dessert. Plus half price wine. A great bargain.

Sal's pizza was worth the few mile trip. Check it out if you want fantastic pizza and Italian food.

Room Tip: Sal's Pizza restaurant is a few miles away. The Jekyll suite was very nice.

Overall the building and grounds were beautiful. We found that most of the employees were very kind and went out of their way for us. My husband and I stayed in the penthouse suite and it was a nice room. It is the same as the other rooms but had a much fuller view off of one side of the room. As others have said in their postings, the B&B is not direct ocean front we found several houses directly in front of the building that would block a direct view. There was a side view through most of the windows and to the right of the balcony.

The beach area is small, much smaller than that of when we traveled here 6 months prior. We were told it had to do with the tropical storm. The only downfall of the room was that it was on the same floor as the restaurant so in the evenings we couldn't come out of our room without it being crowded with staff and patrons smoking. (Right outside the penthouse door is the smoking area) The only other issue was the bathtub. We couldn't use it (even though it was beautiful) because the stopper wouldn't hold the water in the tub. So we never got to use it.

Overall I would say it is a nice place to stay and a great place to eat dinner. The catering dept. did an amazing job on the food and reception (for our wedding here). I would recommend Ocean Lodge to couples looking for a honeymoon spot or a wedding just as long as you know that the rates are a bit high.

I grew up coming to St. Simon's Island every year for vacation as I have family in the area and feel as though I know a lot about the area. We would always stay at the condos down the street or the King and Prince Hotel. This is a nice place to stay if you can swing the check. It is in a convenient location and close to the pier, village shops on Mallory Street. I don' think we will be able to stay here again but plan on staying in the area as we come back for anniversary's in the future. I would say that the Sea Gate Inn and King and Prince hotels would be a cheaper alternative if you can't afford the cost of a night's stay.

Room Tip: The higher your room the better off your view, also keep in mind that the top floor has the restaura...

When researching destinations for our honeymoon (married mid-October), my husband and I stumbled across St. Simons Island, then decided on Savannah and Charleston. Not knowing anyone who had been here before, we relied heavily on reviews to make our hotel decision. We are SO beyond pleased with the Ocean Lodge, and left feeling very satisfied with our stay that kicked off our 8-night honeymoon touring the south.

Like other posters reviewed, it is not beachfront, but we knew that when we booked. We stayed on the 4th floor with an amazing oceanfront view - can't beat waking up to that every morning! We appreciated having a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms with a shower and jet tub, king size bed, and separate living room to complete this suite. It felt very luxurious, and allowed us to really enjoy ourselves, and relax.

We had breakfast sent up to our room the first morning there (no extra charge as breakfast was included in the room price, and you had the choice of eating in the lobby or having it sent to your room) and ate on the veranda, it was lovely. That day we also pre-arranged for couples massages in the room. The massage therapist was on time, friendly, and very efficient. Great job on the Lodge's part for recruiting a talented therapist!

Though our stay was brief (2 nights, 2.5 days) we really enjoyed our time on the island, and hope to return for an anniversary!

Room Tip: Room 401! "Sea Islands" was the room in which we stayed, and were told by multiple employe...

First of all I want to be very clear that this hotel is on the Ocean and not on the beach. You may be wondering what I mean, well the Ocean is in front of the propety across the street but does not have any sand, it is just steep rocks and then the Ocean. We knew this going into it so we were not disapointed but I could see getting upset if you thought you would be beachfront. The beach is just a short drive/bike ride away. The rooms were so nice and felt less like a hotel and more like you were staying at someone's home. Each room is a suite with a kitchen, sitting area and seperate bedroom. We brought a bottle of wine up to the third floor terrace to watch at the sunset and relax (which I would definitetly suggest doing) Each morning the breakfast was very good.

Room Tip: Try and get the highest floor you can.

We stayed at Ocean Lodge in April, 2011, and had a fine time. It is true that technically, it is not ocean front, but from our balcony, we had a view. The evening of our first night, the air conditioner conked out in our room, and the management attended to that promptly and put us in another room, though, oddly, when we first arrived and asked for a different room with a little better view, at that time a different room was not doable. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious and the beds are comfortable. The Kreurig in the kitchen was so convenient. We had breakfast for three of the mornings we were there and between us, tried all of the options on the menu; all were delicious. I agree that a full size pool would have been nice; the existing very small pool is like a "treadmill" lap pool. The bar/restaurant on the top floor has amazing views and we availed ourselves of the bar and the bar specials for 2 nights. We didn't eat at the restaurant because we already had other places in mind, but we did have an appetizer one evening that was very good. I liked that Ocean Lodge was smaller in size and and the privacy and sound levels when we were there were excellent.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. Some of the balconies have higher walls than others; ask for an &qu...

We were more than pleasantly surprised with the Ocean Lodge.
Very old world atmosphere with modern conveniences. The staff is superb--especially William. We wish we could have stayed longer.

The hotel was beautiful. Looks just like the pictures, even better. The suite was spacious and very inviting. The bed was comfortable. The staff was great (more like family) We got hugs from some upon leaving. Everyone was really great. Thank you so much to Jackie, Bill, Will & Michelle and to the restaurant staff. You made our stay special. (if i forgot anyone, i'm sorry) Thank you also to the chef who cooked the fish that we caught for dinner. That made our stay even more memorable. We will definately be back next year.
