We sat outside on a beautiful Wednesday night. The porch was lovely. The food was fine: I had the grilled grouper (one of the evening's specials), which was cooked quite well. The only vegetables I could have, due to dietary restrictions, were cabbage and collard greens. The cabbage was okay, the collard greens outstanding: crisp, not overly seasoned. My husband had the duck with plum jam and enjoyed it. He enjoyed his blackeyed peas, but proclaimed the brown rice with gravy to be "instant" (meaning, the 10-minute kind). He ordered the cherry pie that he had first tried six months after his mother had died. At that time, the pie reduced him to tears because he said it tasted so much like hers. This time, the pie was okay. I had a glass of cabernet sauvignon that was quite lovely; he had a glass of merlot that he said tasted hot and acrid. So, overall, a nice anniversary supper, but not one which we need to repeat.
