“Good Breakfast but lunch is poor quality”

We have gone here for 20 years. The breakfast is good but the lunch food has gotten worse. Atmosphere is very nice and service is good. Eat at the inn for lunch

“Wonderful view, Down-home cooking”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

It's a great place to eat breakfast. Country ham, thick-sliced bacon, fresh-made sausage, biscuits with wonderful preserves and jellies, sausage gravy, good eggs, lovely creamy grits. Just what you would expect from this venue. It was very crowded and busy when we were last there, but the service was still ok. The coffee, which can be a deal-breaker for me, was also very good. I haven't had lunch there, but everyone I know who has was pleased by the quality and the portions.

“Good food, awesome views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2012

Enjoy a beautiful view while digging in to some Southern fare. We all enjoyed our lunch choices while on vacation. Fried green tomatoes, biscuits/corn muffins and all of the divine southern fare you would expect. The servers kept our glasses filled and considering we were a party of 9 the food didn't take that long to prepare. How does chicken and waffles sound? Or chicken and dumplings? Everyone was pleased (4 adults and 5 kids). They even split the bill for us with no problems. The store itself also has some really cute trinkets, food/snacks/candy and all kinds of small gift type items. A nice stop if your looking for the Southern type of food or some snacks/candy or gifts.

“Beautiful location, but young couples beware.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

The view is beautiful, and so is the restaurant.

The service, however, was terrible. If you're young, expect not to be treated the same as the older patrons.

My fiance and I were the youngest table there, being in our 20's with no children. There was a minimum 15 year age difference between us and the next youngest patron (discounting the toddlers). Every other table, even those who came in after us, were taken care of before us. It took 40 minutes to get drink refills, and when we did see our waitress, she gave no reaction to our attempts to get her attention. Lack of drinks delayed eating our food by about 25 minutes, by which time it was cold.

It made me very sad as I have wonderful memories of the place as a child. We came to Callaway to celebrate our engagement, and being passed over repeatedly put a bit of a dent in our spirits.

Honestly, we felt singled out as people who the waitstaff figured would leave a not-awesome tip, so we shouldn't have stellar (or even good) service. It was a self fulfilling prophecy.

“Somewhat disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

While I love Callaway Gardens, this restaurant visit was sub-par.

We visited for breakfast and were greeted by a smile and seated right away. The view is fantastic. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. I don't remember how much the bacon cost but it had to be the thinnest slice ever! And there was barely enough gravy to cover the biscuits.

My friend ordered the blueberry stuffed pancakes and there were only one or two blueberries in the pancakes. For a $10 breakfast entree, I expected better than that. The portion size was enormous but hardly "stuffed" with anything.

She asked for pecan syrup, which was served warm but there was an additional charge for that syrup bringing the price of 4 pancakes to about $14. A bit much for Georgia!

The young lady who waited our table disappeared and the small serving of iced tea I had for breakfast was never refilled.

Overall, it was disappointing and I will never go back there...$14 for pancakes seemed to be out of line.
