“Not a great hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Hotel is close to the interstate, so very noisy. I am a diamond Hilton honors member, but I was not given a bottle of water. The newspapers were gone at 8am. Eggs were cold at breakfast. This is just not a well run hotel.

In July, we stopped at this Hampton Inn in Perry Ga enroute from St. Louis to Jacksonville, FL. This Hampton is just OK. Nothing specifically wrong with it, but we have stayed at much nicer Hamptons. I will say that Perry was a nice quaint town in which to spend an evening. We found a nice restaurant and many little shops open.

On my most recent continuing education trip, I stayed at this hotel because it was recommended on my course registration form at what I considered to be an acceptable rate.

Lets talk about the good stuff first. The room was clean, did not have any odors, and the AC was fantastic (a big deal in August in southern GA.) I received a pleasant welcome at check-in and the location of the property was near the interstate and good for my purposes.

Despite these initial positives, here are the things that bothered me. While my room was a non-smoking room, the hallway outside the room was not air conditioned (or at least it wasn't while I was there) and smoke from some other part of the hotel wafted through the hallways at night when people were in their rooms. Several of the vending machines had little slips of paper over the coin slots indicating they were evidently OOO. The morning housekeepers are pleasant, friendly, and NOISY. The woman responsible for the breakfast area wore no apron, no name tag, and consistently wore a shirt stained from previous use. The rooms were dark because the windows are small. The desk chair in my room was rickety and not suitable for long study hours (which is the reason I travel.)

So generally the overall experience for me was so so. If you are driving I-75 and just need a quick overnight, this place would be fine. But if you are on business and staying for more than one night, you would be better served elsewhere in my opinion. If I were to come back to this area, I would stay at another property.

Room Tip: Away from the elevators and vending areas which are open and in the hallway.

The Hampton Inn for Perry, GA is convenient to the interstate, and therefore an easy on and off stop for those traveling through and needing to call it a night near Perry.

This property looks to have a few yeas behind it, and seems a bit cramped. The breakfast area is particularly small and cramped. The rooms are typical for a Hampton Inn, nothing to comment on positive or negative. I got a good nights sleep, and have no complaints about the room. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The surprising upside to this Hampton Inn is the exercise facility. They do not have an exercise room on-site, but the front desk will give you a key to get you into a 24-hr fitness club (Body Tech Fitness Club?) located about a mile away, in downtown Perry. This facility has an extensive array of machines and free-weights - much, much more than you'll get at a Hampton Inn or full-service hotel.

Give this Hampton Inn serious consideration if getting in a workout matters to you, otherwise you might look for a newer property with a larger breakfast area.

I like Hamptons. I stay in lots of them. This one needs a new franchise, like maybe budgetel or thrifty. The place must have been sold out for a teachers' convention. They forgot to staff accordingly... one person working the breakfast room and she wasn't around until I requested a fork. Cold food, dried out eggs. The two people at the desk were NO help other than telling the attendant to put forks out. I didn't ask for that, I asked for a fork. I wasn't about to fight a mob of teachers to get back to the fork holder. While waiting for the rest of my group, the dirty ceiling tiles were noticed. The elevator buttons are intermittent. My TV remote didn't work about 60% of the time, maybe more. Never again!

This Hampton Inn was a bit below average of like facilities where I have stayed. The front desk staff upon check in was cheerful and helpful. The room was ok, and quiet. The breakfast area was small and somewhat confusing....coffee was not by the food items, it was in a different part of the lobby. We had breakfast around 9 a.m. and things seemed a bit stale at that point. There is a Longhorns Steakhouse next door, and that was good for dinner. There is a Wal-Mart across the street.

The hotel was okay for an overnight stay if you were just stopping for a night on your way to another destination, but you could tell it was older. There were a lot of small things that were wrong. The first room we were given smelled liked a gym locker or like very smelly feet. The second room was much better but there were still stains in the toilet, some sort of mold in the air conditioner and small broken things in the bathroom (tissue holder, plastic pieces, etc). The chair in the sitting area on the first floor was also very worn.
On the plus side the front desk clerk was very helpful and moved us to another room immediately and sent housekeepers to investigate the smell in the first room. Everyone was very friendly. The grounds were also very well kept.
