“Nice stay in historic hotel”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

As the reviewer of the report immediately before this one says, you have to know and enjoy old, historic places to fully appreciate a stay at the New Perry. The Johnson family is working very hard to redo an old and neglected property and they are making good strides in that direction. Every staff member was pleasant, helpful, and loved to chat about the work they are doing and the plans to continue the revitalizing of this old hotel and restaurant.

We stayed in the back motel section in the James Dean room. While older in style and decor (some items are just old, some actual antiques), it certainly gave us a good night's rest and was very clean. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant and a drink in the Tavery, joining locals and visitors in watching and guessing answers to Teen Jeopardy, won that night by a 13 year old student from our home area.

The drink and beer menu choices were of a wider variety than anticipated in both pub and restaurant. There was a dinner theatre production going on in an adjoining room while we ate, attended by quite a few locals, but it did not disturb the flow of service for the 6 or so couples in the regular dining room. Dinner choices were for mostly for southern comfort food, but tasty and well prepared. The rolls were yummy, the raw veggies as an appetizer unexpected and healthy, and the celery soup delicious. Breakfast is available the next morning by order the night before so that the cook knows how many to expect.

Be sure to check on AARP and AAA discounts, but prices are very reasonable!

One has to want to experience a different era to appreciate a stay at the New Perry Hotel. It IS a historic building, and I think the owners and staff are working hard to keep the old but have some modern conveniences. It is NOT the Biltmore. We stayed in the historic section, second floor. We requested a room with 2twins, rather than one double, which were the cheapest options. There were not queen bed options, which would have been OK; 2 doubles were the next price level higher. We went cheap. Many of the rooms were unoccupied and doors open, so I was able to see them the next morning. Definitely the twin room we were in was the least appealing, & smallest. Also the entire second floor was chilly; however, we slept fine, and was like spending an overnight at granny's house. The furnishings are a combination of just old and genuine antiques. Each room has its own bath, except one or two sets of rooms arranged connected by a shared bath. Rooms and baths were clean. Baths are small and spartan, but decor appropriate and adequate .
The hotel building is quite large and includes a formal dining room (excellent value--see restaurant review) banquet room, lobby, and a pub area, the Tavery. An outdoor pool is situated between the historic inn and the newer red brick section. Being January, the pool was closed, but it appears there are pool toys available for guests' use. I enjoyed walking around the grounds which is less than an acre total, but has some large old trees, camellias (some blooming even in January) and azaleas with little paths thru the landscaping, and charming seating nooks.
I laud the new owners' efforts and very much hope they succeed in their efforts to save this glorious, old building while making enough profit to survive. We were there for a Saturday overnight, and most rooms were vacant . We saw / heard no evidence of Maybeline, the former cook and resident ghost. I was not disappointed about that!

I had stayed at the New Perry Hotel years ago and it was awful. The new owner contacted me and asked to give them a try again. I am SO glad I did. It was wonderful!
I arrived, hoping I was NOT going to be treated badly again..and I left as ...part of the New Perry Hotel family. Every one was wonderful. Southern Hospitality at it's best. The Cream of Celery Soup, while sounding not to good, is the best thing this side of the Mississippi! That alone will keep me coming back again and again.
Give this place a try...I'm sure...you will be treated..like family.

My friend and I pulled off Hwy 75 on the way south looking for a place to spend the night. We wanted something more interesting than a generic highway motel so drove the mile or so into Perry. We found this inn and were very glad. The owners offered to show us the rooms before checking in. The larger rooms in the back are theme rooms. I chose the "I Love Lucy" room. The owners have recently taken over the hotel and are in the processing the bringing it back to life. The rooms were very clean and fun along with having microwaves and refrigerators. We could park right by the door to our rooms. The hotel also has a good restaurant with southern cooking and a bar. It is also within walking distance of Main Street with other restaurants and bars. Well worth the price we paid!

We stopped in Perry, Ga. last week unexpectedly. Driving around looking for a hotel we saw the New Perry Hotel and decided to check it out. The owners were very friendly, the rooms were large and clean. Each room had a different theme. Mine was John Wayne. The food is all home style southern cooking and it was delicious. There are other restaurants and bars within walking distance. The bar in the hotel is comfortable and friendly.

The New Perry Hotel Restaurant in Perry Georgia is a superior restaurant. Very friendly staff and an excellent setting in a renovated old hotel. It is a charming setting. The food was superb and fairly priced. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner, we tried both.

Room Tip: Did not stay in the hotel. Only ate at the restaurant.

The owners and staff were extremely courteous, professional and welcoming. This is a historic hotel built in 1924 so do not expect the rooms to be in the class of a Marriott suite. However, they are comfortable and are equipped with refrigerator, microwave and TV. I thought the Southern cooking in the restaurant was outstanding and very reasonably priced. I will definitely stay at this hotel for future trips to Perry.
