“Great Hiking Trail”
Reviewed May 25, 2012

The distance to the park from the Atlanta/College Park area seemed very far, so we were very sleepy when we arrived to the park, but after designating the trail we were going to hike, we were excited! Our group hiked along the trail parallel to the river. The trail was relatively easy other than 3 areas where hikers had to be a little careful. One person in our group slipped in a muddy area. We hiked 2 miles out and then turned around for a total of 4 miles. Hikers can proceed forward past the 2 mile marker, but proceed with caution! One person did go past the 2 mile marker to explore the unknown. The watch tower was a cool place to rest and relax while looking over at the river. We did see some wildlife on the other side of the river. We took pictures, enjoyed the scenery and our lunch as we sat at the picnic tables after our hike. The next time I visit this park, I would like to hike one of the other trails.

“inside voices”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

The park is awesome. The only thing that I disliked was the section police and the park ranger telling us to use inside voices while talking outside at the tent campground. We were not beligurent or cursing. Just six men laughing and having a great time. Just remember that we are there to enjoy the grounds. I think that the ranger and scout need to let people have fun. If others are afeneded sorry but no one was close by to hear. That was at ten at night and yet at the first rv camping section we could hear them at the secound area til 1am. Just saying right is right we did not complain about that. We were glad someone got to have a good time. So when we go back we are going to try to stay at area 1.

“Interesting terrain, good facilities in a brand new park”
Reviewed April 17, 2012

It's only been a state park since mid-2011 but there are two nice campgrounds and a boat dock / playground area in the park. There are several trails in the park and more flagged to be added soon. The river trail is what you'd expect - a trail along the south shore of the Chattahoochee, generally right alongside the river. The central part of the park has some interesting bare rock segments. We didn't camp here but the walk-in sites south of the boat dock looked particularly nice.

“Chattahoochee Bend is a Diamond in the Rough off the beaten path”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

We planned this camping trip for almost a year. We knew there was little to do but enjoy the hundreds of acres of nature and do some kayaking on the Hooch. The park has only been opened for about 9 months but it has all you need for a wonderful experience in nature. The RV camping area has water and electric hookups, picnic table, fire ring with attached grill, clean restrooms and showers, laundry, and a state of the art playgound for the kids. Trails abound with many more planned for the future. There is a wonderful Welcome Center with rocking chairs on the wrap around porches. The tent camping has all of the above except the electric and many of the sites are actually in the woods. The boat and kayak launch area have an abundance of picnic tables and grills in wooded areas along the river bank, several shelters that can be reserved and another state of the art playground. A restroom building is adjacent to this area. The boat ramp includes a carpeted area to drag your kayaks up and down without scraping. The river is calm and lazy in this area and I am sure there will be tubing this summer but fishing was the river activity the week we camped. Bring all your supplies with you because it is a fair distance to Newnan and civilization. There was no AT&T cell service but Verizon was getting minimal service. TV channels are limited so satelite is a plus. Bring plenty of dvds, books, board games and puzzles for the kids, and bikes are great for the campground but the terrain is very hilly outside of the campground. We saw eagles in flight, deer, woodpecker and many other birds. We heard owls each night and whipporwills and there were probably many more to be seen and heard that we didn't experience. Stars were in abundance on the clear nights and it would be a great place to camp during the meteor showers in late summer. Very peaceful and restful camping trip. Can't wait to go back.
