We have been going to this area for 3 years now as it has become a tradition for our kids. Our regular company was booked up when we booked (2 1/2 months ahead) so we used this one as a fill in. The views were great and liked the cabin. The cleaning is a bit to be desired though. We found uneaten cheetos and empty water bottles on the floor telling us it was not vacuumed. We had some serious rain that may have caused some brown water to com through the faucets. They did send someone that was pleasant to talk to and he thought the problem was in a main line he had no access to. He did change the filter to the house which helped some but did not fix the problem overall. We ended up boiling our water then running it through the coffee pot twice to filter the metallic taste. That bought us our last day and a half. I cannot say much to the negative with the dealing with staff or maintenance but the property did not appear to have any apparent pride, if that makes sense. We have come to be accustomed to properties that you can tell people have pride in their home and work as soon as you walk in. We may try this company again if our regular one is booked and we want to take that last minute trip. This will not keep us from this gorgeous area.
This is the second time we have used Mountain Laurel Cabin Rental to vacation in the Blue Ridge mountains. Our first trip in 2013 was wonderful, cabin was nice and relaxing and the area had great hiking. This trip we choose an area a bit further north in Morganton, GA.
Positives: cabin was clean and Mountain Laurel went out of their way for us. 1) we were told via email this location had wifi, it did not. They came out the first night @ 10pm to bring us a Verizon Hot Spot and we had wifi throughout the two story house! Outstanding service. 2) we noticed there was a leak from the refrigerator's ice maker that was going down a wall into the lower level. We left Monday to tour the Chick-fil-a headquarters in Atlanta (great trip) and when we returned that evening the problem had been fixed and the house put back together. Again outstanding service.
Negatives: The cabin named Heavenly View was not as heavenly as hoped due to the height of the trees - I know they can't control how tall trees grow, but hey, maybe change the name of the cabin. Another concern was scorpions! We found one on the bathroom floor on our 3rd day and one in the kitchen sink the 4th day. Needless to say I watched where I stepped after that. Also, our teenage son and his friend who occupied the downstairs saw several large spiders - to be expected in the woods - but it was enough that the last two nights they slept upstairs. The hiking wasn't as good in this area compared to the Cherry Log area where we could walk out our cabin door and find a trail. And there was not much wildlife, other than hummingbirds (wish we had gotten a feeder).
We visited the CFA HQ in Atlanta as mentioned which was a nice day trip. We also went to Mercier Orchards which was recommended and did not disappoint, yes the fried pies are excellent. We brought the boys back some chocolate covered bacon, quite the novelty. The tour was well worth the small fee. We were also close enough to visit friends in Blairsville. All in all a great trip, peaceful and relaxing which is what we needed. I highly recommend using Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals as they have a great variety of locations and rentals and as mentioned, customer service was outstanding!
