Description: In 2017, we grew our family again, adopting two well-established and well-loved restaurants. Morganton-based Cucina Rustica and La Pizzeria at Cucina Rustica were opened by longtime friends of ours years before we arrived in Blue Ridge. When they were thinking of retiring, we saw the opportunity to own the land where our restaurants would live. So we purchased the two Italian-style concepts and brought in Danny’s touch with fresh ingredients and classic European chef training. Cucina Rustica is focused on a fine dining experience with Danny’s interpretation of Old World Italian foods from Sicilian fish dishes to Northern Italian pastas and everything in between. La Pizzeria at Cucina is your classic New York-style pizza place. A place where everyone knows your name and what you like on your pie. We love that – we both grew up with those classic places in our hometowns in Connecticut and Philadelphia.

The food was good, we expected better, I had the penne vodka and was told I could not get grilled chicken on top because they make everything ahead of time, which is a odd since they want to be fine dining. The price was high for a bowl of pasta and sauce. We went on a busy night and they were in a hurry to turn the table they practically pulled the plates out from under us before we has even finished, our kids didnt even get a chance to eat.

We signed the check and left and as we were pulling out our waitress was chasing us out, we pulled over and she said we took the receipt with us and the manager would not be happy if she didnt get it. We insisted we didnt take it and upon looking in her apron she discovered she did have it all along. I dont think we will be returning.

Our food was good, not great. The menu is somewhat limited and pricey for pasta. Probably ten years ago this would be a standout place but restaurants have gotten so good in he last ten years and this place just felt a little bland for the price. When back in the area I would not return personally.

We've lived in the area for ten years and only recently discovered this gem. There are very few restaurants here that understand first and foremost, good service. Cucina Rustica has understated but very efficient staff, you won't know they are there, but you won't find anything lacking. The food is delicious, very nice atmosphere, a real winner. Would recommend a visit, you won't be sorry!

This was recommended as the nicest restaurant in the area. Turned out to be very good. We had the grouper, which was a little over-sauced with heavy caper; but very tender and flaky. The fish itself was top notch. We had Lamb Pops for an appetizer. First time for that and they were quite good. Then we split a Tiramisu that was probably the best ever. Very light.

Had a bad start when I said we just wanted to order one set of things, and we would both eat some. (We had eaten lunch at 3PM). They want to add $5 to do that. So I suggested that we're getting an appetizer and a meal -- I'll take the meal; she'll take the appetizer. The waitress didn't like the end around. Finally she said she'd go to the owner, and returned to say that it's against "policy" but she'll allow it. We ended up spending $72, including wine, desert and tip; And they think we should pay more? Really annoying practice I've seen before.

We intended to dine at the sister restaurant, La Pizzeria, but found a larger than usual Friday night crowd there, so went for the more upscale Cucina Rustica next door (without a reservation). We were promptly greeted and seated, and all of our expectations were met or exceeded: delicious, large family style italian salad with fresh ingredients-even the tomatoes in the off-season, and home-made balsamic dressing. One of us ordered pasta with tomato sauce, and one the shrimp. Both arrived hot and tasty, and in large portions. Since it appeared from the empty bowl that we had enjoyed the salad, a second serving appeared at our table without even being requested. After the main courses arrived, our server and the owner each stopped by our table to make sure that everything was as it should be.
