Could not find fault. Great location it really felt like a desert island. The bedrooms were great however we paid extra for a sea view and although you could see the ocean it was not what I had i mind( My only Fault)The activities were amazing.Turtle watching was unforgetable with good guides and we did a sea safari with snorkelling, if seeing turtles ,sharks ,eagle rays and lots of fish weren't enough a large pod of dolphins swam around us.
With only 20 guests it felt excluseive and very personel. I was gladly suprised about the quality of the food and the attentive staff.
Would gladly recommend to anyone

I can't say enough good things about Thonga. I spent three nights there with my son (2 yrs old) parents and sister and her hubby. The location is amazing and we had forest view rooms which were very comfortable although had no sea views.
The central bar and dining area is very intimate and casual yet professional. You can eat outside or inside depending on weather and how you feel. The chef has to be complimented on his amazing meals and I was so touched by the fact they would make special meals for my boy every night which he wolfed down! Thanks.
All the staff were attentive and professional yet still fun and enthusiastic. Special mention needs to be made of Andy, Maryke, Colin and Donna. Donna took great care of my father (in his 70's) and got his confidence back with scuba-diving.
Others are Musa (looked after my boy when we were all enjoying watersports!) and the waiters.

I was especially interested in the diving and was not disappointed - the diving was amazing and the staff and equipment were great. On the way for our first dive we spotted dolphins and Colin suggested we could swim with them and we all just leapt in and joined the dolphins. Nothing seemed to be a problem for these guys.
The trip to lake Sibaya for sundowners was great. The pool was pretty basic but my boy loved it!
The only bad thing was having to leave! Thanks so much.

Room Tip: All rooms are close to the beach. I never saw the seaview ones but the forest rooms were great.

That place is lovely. In the middle of nowhere (one hour drive from the non 4x4 parking), huge beach, Forest on the sanddune. I just would like to see more seafood on the menu. And it seems it is a favourite place for Germans to book.

It is a long, and dusty last hour's drive, the view on approaching the steep hill down to the Hotel is breathtaking. The Bedrooms were super we were in no4. we could see the sea just, but the setting is perfect. The trees protect you from the wind and the sun keeping the rooms cooler.
Food faultless, Wine as good as ever, the service spot on. Wonderful place to spend our last few days relaxing on an incredible beach miles and miles of golden sand. Our first night drive to find the turtles was a complete sucess within 15 min we had a Leatherback laying her eggs, we watched her prepare her nest, lay, cover up and return to the sea, without intruding, an unforgetable experience. We also did the sundowner trip to the lake and watched the Hippo's.
We had a great time, thank you Bruce and to everyone for making our last few days truly memorable.

Room Tip: Rooms 3 , 4, and 5, all a little higher up so you do get a better view

Excellent management, excellent service, superb cuisine by chef Carl and just a wonderful place to relax and unwind in nature, where your privacy is respected and one can be as involved and active as one wants, or as private and quiet as one wants to be. Definitely recommedd for a romantic getaway or time for a family who loves nature and the beach

Room Tip: All rooms are private and spaced apart, not too sure if it is worth paying more for a room with a se...

A piece of paradise on a stretch of unspoilt beach! A very relaxing weekend away and probaby the most comfortable bed that I've ever had away from home! The staff were all extremely friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The food was absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately we went out of season for turtles, but will be back to make the most of this adventure which is offered at an additional cost in season (Oct - Feb each year). We did however, spot a whale and calf on it's journey back from Mozambique waters. The sundowner at lake Sibaya was very relaxing and the staff made us feel very at home in the Mabibi village. As mentioned on previous reviews, there is no cell phone signal, and a fairly far drive until you would reach signal again, so if you need to make any last minute calls home, do so at the cashew shop, as it will probably be your last opportunity. Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: I personally don't think that the "sea view" rooms are worth the extra cost as the vie...

We stayed here for 3 nights and had the time of our lives!! Andy and Maryke, the managers, are doing an absolutely fantastic job of running Thonga beach Lodge. Their recruitment of staff is excellent - every single staff member was so lovely, helpful, fun, cheerful and genuinely interested in the activities and surrounding area that Thonga has to offer. They catered for our every need. The food is simply divine!! It was a pricey place to go to but every single moment was worth it. We were on honeymoon and when we arrived, not only were the managers there to greet us and sort out our bags being taken to our room, but we had complimentary drinks, were shown around and introduced to other staff members. The blend of professionalism and fun was spot on. They had a bottle of sparkling wine in a bucket of ice awaiting us in our room. The rooms are fantastic!! We had a forest view one which was great (and cheaper than the ocean view ones). A giant bed (2 double matresses together!!) with a massive mosquito net which you could actually walk in rather than having to tuck under your matress which was great. One night we had an aromotherapy bath in our beautiful bathroom with more sparkling wine! They have thought of every detail. The walk to the beach is less than 2 minutes for each of the rooms and the roar of the ocean could be heard from our room. There is a communcal decking area to sunbathe which was lovely. We had massages too and also went on the sundowner trip and the ocean experience where we saw humpback whales breaching and hammerhead sharks! Awesome. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. You do need a 4X4 to get there or they will pick you up. It's a brilliant place to go to for a special treat. Very romantic although we saw some families (with grown up children) there too. Personal, intimate, friendly, fun, lots to do, amazing food - all in all an experience of a lifetime! go!
