There are two trolley tours on Jekyll. Make sure to take this one, as it includes admission to two of the grand "cottages" in the historic district. Our tour guide was delightful, with many stories and insights to share. It's a great overview so that you can go back and walk the area at your leisure. Make sure to visit the Pier Road Shops and the Goodyear Cottage Art Gallery (12-4 daily).

As many times as we have visited, we have never been to the museun---you must go to understand all about the Historic area, Jekyll Island Club, The first transcontinental phone call and the forerunner of the Federal Reserve. It was laid out to make it easy to understand and remember. No admission charge, but donations accepted. While we did not take the trolley tour , this was where to get on.

The tours from here are the only way to access the mansions. The Museum marvelously documents the history of this great place. It is amazing to think that the demise of the Club occurred because German U-boats were spotted close to shore during WWII, frightening everyone off Jekyll Island.

This is a small, easy to navigate center , located across the street for the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Photos, antiques, and news articles decorate the area, giving the visitor an understanding of what this " get away" for the rich , northern, industrialists was all about. A small gift shop offers some GA treats, and souvenirs of Jekyll Island.

Consider taking a horse drawn carriage or train tour. You can stop , visit " cottages" ( gigantic winter homes for the likes of Vanderbilt, Goodyear, Crane, Rockefeller, and and J. P. Morgan, to name a few ), on the train tour. You buy your tickets here, and catch the train in the back of the building. The horse barn is located next to the museum. Check with the. For departure times, weather permitting .
