Description: The Jekyll Island Club Hotel Grand Dining Room continues to be the scene of social gatherings and gourmet experiences. Beautifully restored in the Victorian mode, the room is dominated by Ionic columns and gleaming white woodwork. Three handsome fireplaces, complete with intricately carved mantle pieces and marble surrounds, add warmth and cheer on a winter’s day. The lawns and the river can be seen through expansive windows, and the first blossoms of crepe myrtle and magnolia trees color the landscape in early spring. The glow of candlelight and piano music create an atmosphere of romance and anticipation of the gourmet meal to come. A cause celebre in Southern Georgia dining is the Grand Dining Room’s Sunday brunch, a culinary and visual delight. The last Sunday of most months boasts Sunday Dinner Dance with gourmet dining and ballroom dancing.

Food was nicely prepared. Eggs, Bacon, sausages, pastries, fruit, juices, cereals, coffee, grits, oatmeal, etc. Just walking fron our rooms to breakfast was a nice change. Staff very attentive.

“A Good Restaurant, though a bit overpriced”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We almost didn't eat here, as my husband had not brought a jacket with him, and the literature suggested that gentlemen wear jackets. He did have a tie, though, and I had a dress, and no one said we couldn't go in the dining room for dinner.

The place was practically empty, I believe as a result of the "jacket" rule. However, there were other diners that weren't dressed any better than we were.

The food and service were both good. I liked my dinner better than my husband did. I especially loved the Key Lime Pie.

The prices were a bit high.

“Genuine Elegance”

We had dinner and brunch at the Grand Dining Room, and both were truly memorable meals! It's a beautifully elegant room, with superb food and a truly reasonable wine list. Thanks to Jed for his exceptional service!

“Close but no cigar”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We were visiting the Jekyll Island Club on business for five days. The hotel is absolutely lovely and was for us a great treat and reminder of what life was like in a slower paced more gentile time. Our accommodations were very nice, the property is magnificent and the staff top notch.
We dined in the Grand Dining room daily for breakfast and once for dinner - more about that in a moment.
Breakfast options were a buffet or a la carte. I tried the buffet once and thought it was pretty pedestrian. They did have a daily special - chocolate chip pancakes one day, sausage biscuit without gravy another day, etc. nothing earthshaking, and I passed on them. Otherwise, it was a very predictable buffet.
The ala carte menu was very nice and we stuck with that for the duration.
We originally signed up for the MAP at $76.00 each including tax and grats. We dined there the first evening and were enchanted with the ambience and charm of the dining room.
Sadly, that did not make up for our disappointment with the food. It was just very average. The chef has a love for sweet accents to his offerings. Included in this, for exmple,is the maple bacon served at breakfast. We both ordered the oyster appetizer and there was a sweet fruit component to it that neither of us enjoyed. My duck was bathed in a cloyingly sweet cherry sauce and was dreadfully overcooked and tasteless. My wife had Veal Oscar which featured a bland looking and tasting piece of veal plopped atop the dish.
Another disappointment, were the two fish specials on offer that night - halibut or cod - one of which had some kind of fruity accompaniment. I would think that a place on an Atlantic Ocean island coud come up with something more local and unusual.
Neither of us like this type of cuisine with sweet or fruity accents and it seemed a number of the appetizers and entrees had them. We decided to cancel the MAP and dine elsewhere. It was a disappointing choice because we were very much looking forward to dining there each evening.
I'm giving the restuarant only three stars because the lovely ambience just can't overcome the food disappointment.

“18th Century Elegance”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

What a grand old hotel! Beautiful grounds and a wonderful location with some of the most beautiful live oaks you will ever see.

The Grand DiniNg room was very cozy and nice. The food was good and price value was in place. Would definitely return.

Jekyll Island is well worth a visit.
