We came not expecting a graet deal but was the place atmospheric of the gilded age .
The State Parks Service has done a great job in preserving the site and giving the visitor a glimpse into a world which was unseen by the les fortunate contempories of this privileged group.
Go for lunch on the verandah of the clubhouseand imagine the scene in 1900....... a history buff's delight.

We enjoyed walking around the historic summer homes of the rich and famous of the gilded age. Amazing that they had their own private rail cars to bring the entire household to the Island for the winter or summer.

We drove through and went inside the club house since it was raining and we were somewhat desperate for something to do. Not much here. We are not impressed with old money, though. If it was a sunny day, I would have never have considered giving up the beach for this!

Given a commentary by a knowledgeable guide on a tram tour, we saw the golf club, museum centre and various holiday homes of the rich and famous. I lost count of the times J P Morgan and Rockefeller were mentioned. However, the Faith Chapel is positively gorgeous with its stained glass windows so don't miss that.

Jekyll Island is a beautiful place to visit. Beautiful gardens, gorgeous oak trees dressed with Spanish moss, neat atmosphere. Antique and well maintained buildings give the district a calm peaceful air. Clean streets, relaxing environment, nice scenario. Small pier with almost no shops and few restaurants. Nice to visit but just once.
