It is easy to go back in time as you walk around the historic district. The "cottages" are amazing. There are some small shops scattered around 1 area but I would not make this a shopping destination. We did not take the tram tour so we did not go into the 2 cottages open for the tours but we did not feel it necessary. We enjoyed walking around the area.

My wife and I biked from the RV Park and found a walk around the Historic District a nice break. The homes have been restored although not all are open to the public. We took hundreds of pictures of the grounds, gardens and buildings. Of course, we enjoyed an ice cream in the shopping area and my wife purchased a beautiful sculpture of a lion and lamb which now rests on the dash of our Motor Home. The last time we visited this particular area they were filming Bagger Vance with Robert Redford. It was very enjoyable to see the old cars and actors actually shooting their scenes. The Historic District is a must see when visiting Jekyll.

Jekyll Island has a unique history and if you are at all interested in learning about it, this is the way to go. The 90 minute tour which departs from the museum is very informative and includes tours of two of the "cottages" of the old Jekyll Island Club. We thought it very worthwhile and enjoyable.

Jekyll Island is beautiful and the historic district is very well manicured and maintained. Overall a great vacation spot.

See my review of the Jekyll Island Club. The historic district is a beautifully tended collection of mansions, a nice place for a stroll. I wish I had had time to learn more about the history and visit the homes.

The best way to tour this very interesting historic site is on a bicycle. Easy, wide paths and areas to navigate and lots of interpretive signage with excellent information. Plenty of well placed, clean public restroom facilities. Lots of benches to sit a spell to rest or enjoy the scenery. The Turtle Center, quaint little shops and places to eat at the old hotel or waterfront restaurants are additional attractions. If you can't ride or don't have a bike, take the trolley tour from the museum--at least once so you can go inside and have a look at some of the historic homes.
