“Beautiful and historic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

We've enjoyed staying at this lovely historic hotel several times in recent years. As in the past, the grounds were well cared for and the room was clean and the furniture lovely. Breakfast was served on the porch and was delicious. The only complaint was that the young woman who checked us in was a bit frosty...the only employee we found who was less than cheerful. We were also disappointed with the cheap lavatory seat....a tacky thin plastic piece that annoyingly slammed shut didn't fit with the otherwise high end furnishings. We will definitely be back, however.

This place has a incredible history and is very well preserved. Just seeing the "cottages" that were built by the rich and famous from the 1890's - 1920's. We stayed in Sans Souci. Our room was great and the history behind it made it even more so. The rooms are not brand new, but they are clean for a classic hotel. We ate in the Grand Dining Room with morning breakfast and great evening meals. loved and interacted with the staff. The property is beautiful and we had our bicycles and a trail to circle the island. The pool was great at the end of the day and having the Latitude 31 Seafood Restaurant at The Pier was a plus.

Room Tip: Sans Souci Away from main hotel.

Summertime here would be fabulous, with the swimming pool and he beach club. Mid-October, not so much. The bottom line (so you can stop reading this now if you want): I felt it was overpriced for the value received. True, the site is absolutely stunning. The village of millionaires past sits in a grove of old oaks, and the hotel has a nice vibe. Our queen room in the main hotel was smaller than Toyko hotels we have stayed in. It was clean and everything worked, but at 9 a.m. we woke to serious weed trimming noise that carried on until 11. Too cold to swim, but we played golf, took a walk on the beach, had a nice early-bird dinner (22.95 fixed price for salad, bread, and a smallish but delicious entree choice)), and the next morning paid for bikes for a lovely ride along the beach. So why does this get a three-star review? We could have spent a lot less money by staying in a cheaper, and still very adequate, motel by the beach and still have done everything we did.

Room Tip: If you book online, follow it up with a phone call. And look, and ask, for specials.

We have stayed there 2 years in a row to watch our daughter play in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Golf Invitational. The location is ideal. The nearby restaurant on the pier is really good. On the weekends there has been a live band playing outside on the pier which makes it a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink and listen. The grounds of the hotel are lovely and what I picture of the south. The rooms are smaller but very comfortable and with modern conveniences. I highly recommend this hotel.

We had a double room in the annex and it wasn't large but it was beautifully furnished.
It was a huge problem figuring which beautiful place to sit! The porches were lovely.
The buffet breakfast was a great bargain for $ 11.95-very nice , especially on the window lined side room.
We rented bikes and rode around, explored in the other buildings, and went across the road for a drink at a nearby restaurant at sunset. They also have a beach pavillion on the beach side of the island-chairs and umbrellas are free and are set up for you.
So our room was a fall special, for just over $ 140, with a $15 resort fee and taxes. Worth it-I would love to go back

My wife and I have stayed here many times and consider it a large part of the treat of going to the Georgia-Florida football game every year. While the hotel and staff are great, the restaurant is the real reason we visit. It is our favorite restaurant anywhere and we have been over about half the world. Actually we live outside Atlanta and have found no restaurant in Atlanta that compares. Stay at this hotel at least once, take dinner and the Sunday brunch buffet in the restaurant and you will find classic Southern charm and atmosphere like you see in magazines. Wonderful.

After visiting Jekyll Island for the first time last year I HAD to stay at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. It was well worth the money and anticipation. The hotel and grounds are southern beauty at its finest! We sat on the veranda and enjoyed the view of the river and live oaks. The food was superb. Do not let the prices stop you from enjoying the breakfast buffet.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and wiling to help the guests. We enjoyed the shuttle service to the beach as well as having chairs and an umbrella set up for us (unlike having to lug everything with you if you are staying at the Hampton Inn). I recommend renting bikes and exploring the grounds. We spent half a day pedaling around the river side of the island.
My one complaint (sort of) was my surprise at the lack of concern when the bathroom vent/tile fell on me when we came in from dinner one night. Water was pooling above the vent and a previous patch job must have entailed sticking towels in the ceiling. The weight from the water soaked towels caused it to fall, a random coincidence that I walk in when it fell. We called the front desk to have someone address the issue. No one asked if I was o.k. and the wait time was quite long. Considering a huge liability issue, I thought having a vent/tile falling on guests would take priority. This issue would not stop me from returning.
I recommend staying here if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to unwind and take in the charms of the South.

Room Tip: Splurge to have a larger room. Our room was quite small.
