This is a ruined house, first belonging to an Englishman Mr Horton who was the first owner of Jekyll island. He arrived here with Mr Ogilvy and it took him three years to get the island in shape to bring his family over. He farmed here successfully for many years. The plaques are very clearly written.

This is a neat set of ruins on Jekyll. It doesn't take but a few minutes to read the history and look around. So if you have a few minutes stop by and take some pictures. Every time we go to Jekyll we take the kids pictures in one of the windows here. It makes a very interesting backdrop.

We saw this from the tram which is the only way to do the entire district. It was very hot so the tram person stopped at the general store to let us get bottled water. We appreciated it.

Great history about the du Bignon family which owned the island at one point. Interesting chronology about how the island evolved.

It is amazing what you can build with lime, sand, water and crushed oyster shells! This is a great example of this building technique. There is enough exposed to see how the house was built.
