“Excellent hotel in a beautiful location”

This is my first visit to Jekyll Island and I fell in love with it. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a resort community so you have to expect higher than normal prices for lodging.

This is the only fairly new lodging choice for Jekyll, although a new Westin and Holiday Inn will be in the mix next year. We just completed a nice four night stay here and had not a single complaint. Our check in was very fast and efficient, no issue parking despite the hotel being full, room was pleasant and spacious (2 queen suite with balcony and woods view), big breakfast area, clean and well kept grounds, plenty of amenities. As other reviews have mentioned, you cannot see the beach from the hotel, or even the roof of the hotel from the beach, as its tucked behind dunes and trees. However, the walk is short and really scenic. It should be noted that there is a set of stairs leading up to the boardwalk and another set leading down to the beach. Take care to notice the marked sea turtle nest located at various spots along the edge of the dunes. They are identified by white stakes, with nest number and date. There's one immediately to the right of the stairs as you enter the beach.

Overall, this is an excellent choice for Jekyll Island lodging.

The desk clerk's greeting was insipid and the overall stay here was not what other reviewers had mentioned. This is not for the romantically inclined as there were rude children not restrained by disciplined parents, housekeeping very noisy in the early morning heard through the door, insufficient staffing as the desk clerk's duties far exceeded any one person's capabilities and no bath towels stocked as I sadly discovered after showering and unsuccessfully dried off with a hand towel the size of a postage stamp. Complimentary breakfast was good if you like cereal, dry scrambled eggs, turkey sausage. The internet service worked for about a minute, then I quite trying after my laptop froze twice. Don't expect a bell boy to rush to your luggage, this is a self-serve hotel that charges a price of a full service hotel.

The light fixture in the bathroom fell and broke while I was brushing my teeth. No one hurt and no refund for the night. Staff was very nice. Great location and the kids enjoyed the pool. Pool hours strictly enforced.

We stayed several nights in June (2013). The beach is right by the beach, but you cannot see the beach/ocean from the hotel. (You take a nice wooden walkway through trees and end up on the beach.) Beach is great, but if you plan to hang out on the beach you need to bring your own chairs or towels to sit on. The rooms were large, but nothing special. We found the bed (mattress) uncomfortable, there were no sheets or pillow(s) for the sofa bed, and though it was nice that they had a bar in the lobby, the bartender didn't know how to make common cocktails. When we called the front desk the first night (around 11 p.m.) to say there were no sheets/pillow for the sofa, for our son, we were told that we had to come to the front desk to pick up the sheets/pillow if we wanted them. On the second night, we discovered the iron was covered with a sticky film that came off on the board/fabric. My husband and I both had to call to ask for a new iron. They did bring to room, but it was a hassle to get a replacement. We'd go back to the island, but would stay elsewhere.

Had a very pleasant stay here recently. The rooms are large and very comfortable. Staff is great and bends over backwards to accomodate you. Beach is only 75 feet away. Top quality hotel. Complimentry breakfast was very good. Also ate at the resturant on site. Really good food. Their crab cakes are the best I have had ever.

Room Tip: The first night we had a pool view room. It was great. The next night we had a regular room with n...

We stayed for 5 nights in July. Desk clerks were pleasant but not overly friendly which is fine with us. Service at breakfast was sufficient. Breakfast area was large and always replenished regardless of how many people were present. The happy hour at the off to the side lobby bar was great! We had appetizers at happy hour that are the same menu that is served poolside and they were microwaved but very good. Bartenders were excellent and personable. We had a room facing the parking lot with no balcony but I had a reduced rate so i couldn't complain. Our room faced the lot but it was large. All rooms have refrigerators. Only room negative is tv's are far from the bed due to the large room but we didn't watch it
much anyway. Rooms are beautiful and clean and housekeeping is wonderful. Hotel Lobby is perfectly Kaye's out, clean and had a wonderful setting area with a fireplace which was lit mornings. Lots of tv's in lobby as well. We didn't use the pool but I was out early mornings to see the sun rise and maintenance was working on it daily. They do need more lounge chairs and tables around it though. They were always occupied. I think people would get up early and put there things on the chairs and go back to the room or down to the beach. Sunrises are phenomenal. Worth getting up for. Beach area is deserted most of the
time. We loved that!

Only negatives are that both the ocean water and the bathroom water smelled like fish.

We went to st Simons island to eat most nights. Excellent placed to eat are iguanas, blackwater grill ( was on diners, dives and drive throughs). Also Sunday brunch at Jekyll Island land club hotel. Unreal! Pricey and dress nicely but worth the food and ambiance!

One other note. I would not bring children here. Very pleasant for adults but not much for the kids and there are much better suited beaches for children. Wonderful for adults. We did hear kids above our heads early in the evening but we both sleep well so we did not hear noise at night.

This is a first class Hampton and I wouldn't miss it if I were you!
