On our trip up north this year, we decided to try something different from the usual hotel/motel type accommodations. High Falls State Park, just 2 miles east of I-75, offered a new experience for us. A YURT! What's a yurt, you ask? It's a large circular tent set on a platform. Ours was approx. 20 ft. in diameter with a dome on top allowing you to see the nearby tree branches and leaves or the stars at night. There's also a powerful fan to keep the yurt cool. In fact, we even had to cover up while sleeping when we were there. Basically, it's a sort of deluxe camping experience. My husband and I sat on the back porch, overlooking a small lake, and enjoyed a glass of wine while looking at the stars. Yes, you need to bring your own sheets/towels and your own food but they do supply the bbq and the double-sized bunks. Thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and would do this again and again. Much better than the confines of franchise type hotel/motel accommodations. Suitable for couples and/or families. Reasonably priced too.
