“Wonderful B&B experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

The Helmstead is a great Bed and Breakfast. The owner, Miss Jane, makes you feel like family from the minute you arrive. The historic brick house itself is amazing and beautifully furnished, and each room has its own character. Wifi and cable TV are available in each room. Breakfast was delicious and the staff is friendly. The town of Homerville is a neat little community that has preserved its downtown area and train depot. At a nightly price of only $90, the Helmstead is great for anyone needing a place to sleep while traveling across southern Georgia or for anyone seeking a great B&B experience.

After speaking with 'Miss Jane', the owner of The Helmstead B&B, prior to our trip, we knew we had to stay there. Her southern charm was simply too much for us not to stay there. Our rooms were lovely, breakfast was wonderful and 'Miss Jane' regaled us with local history, both hers and the area's.

Room Tip: There's no bad room in the house.

My husband stayed at the Helmstead the end of August, 2012 to attend a funeral service for his high school friend. He was so impressed by the rooms, service, hospitality that he received while staying there, he told me he might take me up there just to stay there and have that experience. Ms. Jane was such a fine "lady", Mary and Jerome were there to meet your every need. This was his best experience at any Bed & Breakfast.

Used Homerville as a mid point stop over on our road trip from Fairhope, Alabama to Savannah, GA. Our stay at the Helmstead was enchanting. This two story colonial home is filled with antiques, memorabilia and warm hospitality provided graciously and colorfully to you by Ms. Jane. We stayed in the "Princess" room which was well appointed, clean, and had a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious. Our stay was a delightful experience that we will not forget thanks to Ms Jane, Jerome, and Ms. Mary.

We lived in DuPont, Ga during my Jr. High and part Sr. High years and I always like to visit relatives when passing through. We planned to stop by in July to say hello to family members on our way to Savannah. Although I knew my family would welcome us into there homes, I wasn't sure of our plans, and decided to just stay somewhere close and call them when we got in town. Thinking we'd have to stay in Valdosta, I was pleasantly surprised to find Helmstead B&B online. Never knew there was a B&B in H'ville. Jane, Jerome and Mary were wonderful. We stayed in the Queen room and it was great. Even though there was no individual a/c controls, there was a fan and we were very comfortable. My husband enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing. We were able to rest, drive around old familiar roads and enjoy our time with family. Thanks, Mary and Jerome, for the great breakfasts. We now have new "family" in H'ville. Enjoyed great conversation with Jane, the staff and other guests. This was our first B&B experience. Would recommend this B&B highly!!

Room Tip: Any room would be great. I enjoyed the Queen looking over the pool and outside there was an angel o...

Ms Jane was out of town celebrating her birthday day...but her staff did not miss a beat. They were amazing!!! Everyone in our party had the best night's sleep and the most delicious breakfast by Ms Mary. Jerome was the best host, ensuring we all were well taken care of...as the saying goes "The true test of a man's character is what he does when no one is watching.” Ms Jane should be so proud to have a staff that makes the "Spirit of Excellence" look so effortless.

Room Tip: All of the rooms were great! If you need adjoining rooms then you want to utilize The King, Queen &a...

I had never heard of Homerville, Georgia, until we planned a trip to Valdosta and started looking for a bed and breakfast in the area. We made reservations based on the reviews here at Trip Advisor and could not have been more delighted with our experience.

Our hostess Jane Helms is fond of saying "Helmstead is my passion!" It certainly shows in the care she has taken with her propertry and the care with which she treats her guests. From the moment we arrived, we felt as if we were staying with a longtime friend. The home has been thoughtfully appointed, and every convenience you would want is there. There are several rooms to choose from- we stayed in the Kings Room, which featured a king-sized bed, bath with double sink and shower/tub, and a separate sitting room with sofa, desk, and TV, plus wifi. I did get a glimpse of the Queen Room and would recommend it highly to those who are OK with a queen bed-- it is a bright, sunny room decorated in pastels and has comfy-looking seating within the room. Guests of all rooms are free to use the downstairs parlor, where we enjoyed drinks (BYOB) and fascinating conversation with the owner and other guests in the evening.

Breakfast each morning is included--ample without being an overload and features many traditional Southern favorites. There are numerous places outdoors to sit and enjoy the beautiful grounds, including a pool and covered conversation area. We explored the community a bit and found Homerville to be a wonderful respite from suburbia-- much more vibrant and upscale than many of you might expect, while maintaining a quiet, homey feel. And don't be fooled by the restaurant names-- the food is among the best you will find. We had excellent seafood at Hoagie's and barbecue that will rival any out there at Jimbo's Log Cabin.

We will definitely plan a return trip to The Helmstead.
