My husband and I traveled with four other friends to compete in a 5K swim on Lake Chatuge and elected to stay at the Mallard Point Cottage for one night. On arrival, the staff was extremely courteous and answered our many questions about using a boat to paddle around, there were nice dogs to greet us. The cottage was very cute with three bedrooms, a small-ish full kitchen, one bath, a living area and a nice back porch with a private dock that did not face the marina. The marina is an unusually quiet one so there was very little noise or fuel in the water -- we swam off the dock and didn't feel gross at all. We cooked dinner in the little kitchen and had a great evening. The downside to the bedrooms was that one of the bedrooms was a walk-through to get to the third bedroom -- my husband and I opted to take this one as I usually have to micturate during the night. Unfortunately the rooms are not well-ventilated and we did not feel as though we got any air-flow at all in our room. In the middle of the night I was sweltering and had to move to the couch on the living room in order to cool down. After flip-flopping much of the night in sweat, it was a terrible night. Our other friends did not seem to have the same extent of problems with the AC cooling their rooms but our friend in the Terminal Bedroom remarked on how hot our room was. I would stay here again (at the Marina) but likely stay in the 4-plex or the duplex, especially if we have six people again. The one bathroom was only a minor issue, but it got plenty of use with six people just before a race. The kayaks were nice and new and easy to use. The lake is BEAUTIFUL and set in the mountains -- can't wait to come back next year!

Thank you for staying with us and also for taking the time to write a review and submit a great picture! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and the marina. I'm sorry to hear about the ventilation in your room at Mallard Point cottage. We have since made several renovations to the cottage, including ceiling fans in each bedroom to improve airflow and cool things down, fresh paint throughout, and several other updates and renovations to the flooring, furniture, appliances, and decorations. We have also added 32" flat screen TVs to all of our rooms. Thanks again for staying at Boundary Waters, and I hope we have the opportunity to earn your business again in the future!

My husband and I rented the Mallard Point Cottage for us and our 1 year old daughter. We relocated the lamps on nightstands, plugged the outlets with childproof covers, kept the bathroom door closed, and placed a baby gate between the kitchen and the remainder of the cottage. All these precautions took us only ten minutes to accomplish. The result was a baby friendly accommodation.

The full kitchen was a plus as it allowed us to prepare healthy meals and snacks for dinner and to pack a good cooler for our outings during the day. Our cabin had more than enough linens, blankets, soap, etc. The nights were quiet and peaceful as there was very little noise aside from nature. The Boundary Waters staff were friendly and willing to give us tips about the area, help with the kayaks, etc.

There is plenty to do in the area for outdoor enthusiast. We took our daughter out on the lake, strapped her into a hiking pack and enjoyed nearby trails, took a day trip to the Biltmore, and went to the Cherokee reservation. When she is older we will return to the area for tubing down the rivers and to take full advantage of the boating, water skiing, and fishing opportunities.

The only drawbacks to consider are the cabin only has a shower. Also the cabin is well maintained, but shows some age such as sticky inside doors, no closets, etc.

Overall I highly recommend Boundary Waters. It has the makings of an annual vacation.

We stayed at Boundary Waters over Labor Day weekend. We had a great stay. This part of the Georiga Mountains is beautiful. It was great being in a nice sized lake up in the mountains.

We are a family of four, 2 adults and 2 boys. We stayed in one of their waterfront 1 bedroom suites. We choose this restort because of the marina. They rent many different types of boats, and at a good price. Also the accomadations were very inexpensive for being on the water. We usually like to rent a house, but we figured we would put the money into renting boats this trip, and save money on accomadations.

We arrived after they had closed, but they had an envelope waiting at the main office for us, giving us directions to our suite. The suite looks just like the pictures on the website. It is a nice size for a family of four and was pretty clean. I was worried the boys wouldn't be comfortable on the sofa bed, but they really were. The only issue I had with the suite was that it smelled of must and mildew. We went to the store and got some febreeze and air freshener. We also put the air conditioner on high. After that the place was fine. This suite is in a building of 4. 2 up and 2 down. We were down. I asked the other guests if they had the same problem, and they didn't. Maybe the airconditioning had leaked, or the place just needed to be aired out. Either way we solved the problem and everything else was great. Even though we were right at the marina, it was very quite inside. We used the kitchen for a couple of dinners and breakfast. On the weekends they have someone grilling burgers and hotdogs for lunch. Really good. We also liked having the full fridge in the suite because we were able to easily stock a cooler for a day on the lake. At night I enjoyed hanging out in a rocking chair on the porch looking at the lake. There are some docks you can swim and fish off of. We didn't swim from this area because it is right in the middle of the marina, not very nice to swim in. But when you are a guest at the resort you have access any time, to the kayaks, canoes and paddle boats. So after a day of boating, we had to return by 5:30pm closing time, we would take out some of the canoes and kayaks and paddle to an area of the lake to swim and fish. The kayaks were really nice and comfortable. They were so easy to use, our kids could do it on their own. We could watch them from our porch. The place was full when we were there, but we seemed to be the only ones around at night. It was very peaceful.

2 of the days we rented the ski boat. It was perfect for our needs, skiing and tubing. The kids loved it. 1 day we rented a pontoon boat. All of the boats and waverunners looked new. The staff was wonderful. Very nice and helpful. Everyone was laid back and friendly. We can't wait to go back.

This is a really nice location - right by Lake Chatuge in North Georgia, very close to Hiawassee.

There's a marina and boat rentals available here, as well as a limited amount of accommodations - we stayed in the Lakeside deluxe suites (a small block of 4 apartment suites), which were clean, spacious and comfortable.

All in all a great time - really quiet even with the marina being a (literal) stone's throw away, and with Hiawassee on the resort's doorstep (1 mile away) there were plenty of breakfast / dining options.
