“Excellent place for a weekend away, but expect to spend big bucks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

Just returned from a weekend away at the Ritz with my husband and I am so relaxed. The lakeside property is beautiful and serene. We had unseasonably cool weather for our mid-July stay (high of 84 degrees) and that really helped to make the weekend special. We sat at the infinity pool all day long.

Pros:
1 - Gorgeous infinity pool that overlooks Lake Oconee
2 - The property is clean and very well maintained
3 - Lots of activities, such as wake boarding, jet skiing, biking, boating, etc.
4 - Nice golf course
5 - Pet, couple and family friendly. Lots of kids here, but they kids that were there the weekend we were there, were very well behaved
6 - Food is superb
7 - Service is outstanding. Professional and friendly. We always felt welcomed and appreciated as guests.

Cons:
1 - Cost. Although the food was excellent, the prices at the spa and restaurants are very high. $145 for a 50 minute massage? No thanks. Meals were quite expensive as well. Breakfast ran us about $50 a day, and dinners were over $75 a person.
2- The Ritz Carlton charges for internet access from the rooms. $10 isn't terrible, but I felt like I was getting "nickel and dimed".This is 2013, not 1997...make internet access free!
3 - $20 a day for parking is ridiculous. We are in the middle of nowhere, so its not like land is at a premium...again, "nickeled and dimed".

As you can see, my only cons have to do with price. A two night stay, including all of our meals on property and parking was close to $2000. Sure, I felt pampered, but that is quite expensive for a relaxing weekend getaway.

We recently spent five days at this property and I can truly say that there is not one thing about this property or staff that was not exceptional. The property is located about an hour east of Atlanta in a very beautiful lakeside resort. The property is heavily wooded and sits on a lake. The style and architecture is very rustic with Ritz style. The infinity edge pool overlooks Lake Oconee and has great poolside food and beverage service. There is a great sand beach on the property which was thoroughly enjoyed by our children. Lots of staff on the beach and pool to keep everyone engaged in lots of activities.

I highly recommend taking advantage of the water sports. We rented a pontoon boat and enjoyed lunch on the boat. Every evening there is a big gathering around the fire pit where you can toast marshmallows and make smores. This was a big hit with the kids and a great way to meet others enjoying the resort. There are also fire pits along the lake that are more intimate and romantic if you are not in the "kids making smores" phase of your life.

The staff is exceptional. Every single staff member was pleasant, helpful and very service oriented. One of our dogs got sick during our stay and the staff was amazing. They made arrangements for us to visit a nearby vet, who was equally amazing.

Due to its location being very remote, you will enjoy incredible star gazing and very peaceful evenings and mornings. My wife took advantage of spending an afternoon at the spa and continues to rave about the service.

The only criticism I could possibly make is that the property has no real food/snack options so you may want to bring a few things with you if you have small children. You can buy milk from a Starbucks which is on-site or order it from room service, but that is not very cost effective. The resort does offer a child dining plan. $40 per day for each child and they can eat all day. You may also want to check with your travel agent about special offers. We always book through American Express and as a result we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast each day and our fourth night was free.

Our favorite Ritz properties are Kapalua in Maui and Bachelor Gulch in Colorado. I now include the Ritz Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation in this list. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: You will definitely want a room with a lake view.

We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge in early July 2013. The property itself is wonderful, with a ton of activities for all in the family to enjoy. The infinity pool overlooking Lake Oconee was really nice and there's a nice beach area at the lake. Conversely, the restaurant in the Lodge, Georgia's Bistro, was average at best for dinner. Servers were not knowledgeable on wine, nor attentive. Not once did they fill our glasses with the bottle we bought and our check was left on the table before we were finished with dinner. Second, the Chef's special that night (Friday night) was a buffet. Third, the dining room had a lot of traffic from non-dining patrons due to a hotel placed right in the middle of the dining area. Just didn't seem Ritz worthy. After dinner, we went up to lounge for a nightcap and sat over 20 mins in the lounge area, without a server stopping by. Not a big deal - went up to the bar myself to get our drinks and bring them back, but this type of service is not Ritz worthy. Will go again because of the activities and grounds and maybe better luck will be had trying different restaurants.

My family has been spending a long weekend here for years. We have never had a single issue with anything-which is what we expect from a Ritz (of course)
There is a lot to do here if you wish to do it. We mostly try to relax by pool and beach when we are here.
This is an excellent family resort. There are many families here.
For some reason given all the luxury this resort does not feel stuffy, just a comfortable high end stay.

If you are in need of a lake getaway this should be your go-to spot! The facilities are absolutely stunning, down to every last detail. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. If you can spare some extra money, upgrade to the Concierge Level, it's worth every penny. They offer a breakfast buffet, lunch buffet, early evening appetizers and late night dessert, and it's all very very good! The infinity pool is absolutely gorgeous and I love the fact that they also have a sandy beach should you want to hang by the lake. Gaby's and Linger Longer are by far my favorite restaurants at Lake Oconee. Gaby's is a casual waterfront restaurant/bar, with fantastic food (try the barbeque pork nachos, best nachos you've ever had!) and fabulous bartenders. Linger Longer Steakhouse rivals any 5 star steak house you've ever been to. And per the usual of the Ritz brand, the customer service is off the charts. Everyone is friendly, extremely helpful, and will go out their way to ensure you have nothing but the best stay possible. While I didn't take kids, it is a very child friendly resort with LOTS for them to do without feeling like you're around 100s of screaming kids at DisneyLand. Will continue to return again and again!

Room Tip: Concierge level is worth the money!

Sometimes you are just surprised by how great or bad a resort is to visit. The Ritz-Carlton brand is always something I feel good about, but this location is above the normal Ritz-Carlton. There are many upsides to this location. Tons of stuff to do...paddle board, canoe, rent jet skies, rent a boat and many many more things to list. They have a great play ground area, basket ball courts, and these great swings that are everywhere.

The food at all the Restaurants were great. I was happy everywhere on property.

The Spa is very nice are large, but not every therapist is a 100%. My wife, a friend and i all had services and it was a little hit or miss for each of us.

The one downside to the resort is the gym, almost no free weights except for a small corner and its hot and has the slowest music you can ask for.

The Hotel has been newly remodeled and it feels like new. We've been twice and stayed on the club level both times. By far the best club level of any Ritz I've stayed.

One thing to note, you are hour and half from Atlanta but feel like you are in another state completely.

Lastly and most importantly to me, the services is great. I could go on and on with examples but to wrap it up simply by saying the staff are extremely friendly and helpful!!! This is really my favorite Ritz Carlton!!! I can't wait to go back.

There is plenty to do here for everyone for 5 or 7 days if you can afford it. Spa is open to all to everyone with a room; nice touch. On Lake Oconee with plenty of water sports; beach, jet-ski, fishing, wake-board,ski and we did tubing. Infinity-pool open 24 hours viewing the lake. Lots of families, couples, little ones and preggers mommas everywhere; lots of options. Pet-friendly too.
