“Fantastic Hotel For Christmas!”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

My wife and young daughter and I just spent Christmas at the Ritz Carlton Lodge at Reynolds Plantation and it was amazing! This is the second time in three years we went there for the Holidays and I can't recommend it enough for families who want a relaxing getaway. The on-property restaurants are great and the staff is extremely nice. The seasonal decorations are very awesome and the Holiday bonuses are fun. They have an actual ice rink on property for skating and they have a little train to take the little kids (and big kids) around the property. They have a fun "Breakfast with Santa" for families during December and they even have a little kid "story time with Mrs. Claus" too. All in all it is a magical and uncrowded holiday experience!

Room Tip: Almost all the rooms face Lake Oconee but I really recommend reserving a suite. To save a lot of mo...

I love staying at the Ritz when ever I can and this was no exception. I loved the grounds! They have hammocks, swings and chimes everywhere and it really adds to the tranquil feeling. This is needed becasue the rooms are small. The bath is nice and there is a balcony or patio as well but I was suprised by the room size. I have had much larger at much cheaper resorts. At the Ritz, you will have to pay extra for space.

Room Tip: Pay for a lake view suite.

The place really knows how to accommodate it's guests for the Christmas season. The decorations were beautiful and the wood burning fireplace in the lobby was unforgettable. Many families were taking advantage of the Christmas festivities offered by the resort and we all gravitated to the fire pit nightly where we prepared smores. The service was exceptional. The bistro offered a wonderful breakfast/brunch and Gaby's is a delightful restaurant to enjoy lunch and dinner in front of another wood burning fireplace. I look forward to the next visit.

The room was comfortable. The bathroom was large with both a tub and shower with the toilet behind a closable door. The room design is a bit awkward with the closet having doors opening outward into the hallway, which makes a miserable bottleneck. In addition the shower door swings the wrong way and is awkward to enter.
We had difficulty checking in, for which we were compensated with a reduction on our bill. They got overwhelmed in housekeeping with 100% occupancy. The people at the desk were delightful and friendly and employees were engaging with a "Happy New Year" in the hallways.
Get ready to get nickeled and dimed for everything. $20 a day for valet parking, plus tips every time you need your car. $10 a day to use their internet. I prefer to pay more for the room and not get hit over and over.
The grounds were lovely with little streams and swings. The pool with water flowing over the edge was very cool. I never got down to the spa, but heard great things about it. There was an ice rink and fire pit where we hung out after the rehearsal dinner. They should have given a map at check in. The layout is very confusing and it takes a while to figure out how to get outside to the place you would like to walk around.
We went for a lovely New Year's Eve wedding. I can't say enough about how convenient it was for guests to have all the wedding events in one place. It was wonderful to be able to run back to the room if you need to change shoes or grab a coat. The large room for the reception was flawless in comfort and service. We watched a wave of about 10 people emerge from the kitchen with 3 plates in hand (like planes lining up for a military strike during war). The salad was fabulous, and the main course was very good. I still wish I had accepted the tiny grill cheese at the end of the night that everyone was raving about. The fireworks were a wonderful finish for our New Year's Eve wedding.

Room Tip: We enjoyed being on the 3rd floor, which is the lobby level. The 1st floor would be convenient if y...

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge for 4 nights over the Thanksgiving holidays...

Pros
- Nice property and grounds. Lots to do on site without having to drive. Fishing, Boating, Basketball, Playground, Temporary Ice Rink, Kids Train, Bike Path, Segways, Golf, Spa, Pools (indoor/outdoor).
- Supermarket and Theater right down the street
- Family atmosphere....lots of kids and things to do with kids.
- The spa was large and nice.
- Had a great meal at the Linger Longer Restuarant
- The thanksgiving buffet, while expensive, was great. The food was wonderful, the presentation interesting, and the entertainment fun.

Cons
- We were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary. The front desk acknowledged it when we checked in, but that was it. 4Seasons always puts a card and/or dessert in our room
- Our box bed was not sitting on the bed frame properly. We were too tired to fix when we got back to the room. Staff fixed the following morning.
- Carpet & Furniture is needing update
- They only had live music one night, but the band was good.
- Staff was a little underwhelming compared to other locations.
- No self parking - considering we barely used our SUV while we were there, the $20/day fee was a waste.

Recommendations / Suggestions
- Spring for the lake view rooms if your looking for a more quiet vacation. I got a garden style room hoping for an upgrade, but apparently the lake rooms were full at checkin. Our room sat on the Ritz train path side. The train ran at select times. The train sound effects became annoying after awhile when we sat on our balcony or left the door open. Same goes for the other side of the building and the ice rink. The ice rink plays loud music.
- Book resturant & spa before you arrive. Granted this was a holiday weekend, but the Spa and Linger Longer Restaurant were nearly fully committed when we arrived.
- Become a Ritz Card member. You get free internet & room upgrade if avaliable.

All in all, we would return again.

Just came back from 2 night stay with our family, cousins and grandparents. Beautiful grounds with outside infinity pool with view to die for; friendly bellboy giving kids ride on cart; relaxing spa with indoor pool with family hours (Emily, thank you for best massage); delicious food (great filet mignon, yummy breakfast and smooth skinny martinis with hummus dip- thanks Will from Gabby); lots to do - kids loved canoeing on lake and we want to than Halley again; finish the night with smores; and more to do next day. But, service is not consistent and needs to improve at dinner time - heard others complain about the same. It is low season and friends had suggested going off property for dinner. A little surprised since had just gotten back from quick fall break trip to the Ritz at Laguna off season and this was not the case there. Yet, still recommend staying at Reynolds Plantation and hope to give it 5 stars next year.

this place was FABULOUS. i was there for a work event and couldn't have been happier. like the title says, it felt like i was hanging out at a rich, old money, friend's house. we played at the pool table. we drank at the bar. we hung by the fire places.

the details of the property were beautiful. the time of year (early Nov) was breathtaking with the leaves changing was a nice bonus and the location is set a little over an hour from ATL, so it really felt like a retreat. it was so quiet and peaceful.

Pros: the nightly smores by the campfire (yes, i love this added touch), the 2x/day room service, the grounds are amazing, the room is large and the bathroom was nice. the food at Gaby's was a little pricey, but it was plenty reasonable for a Ritz and was good. even the guiness tasted better.

Not-so-big-of-a-deal-cons: i was a little surprised with all the staff up front that nobody offered to help with my bags, but i didn't need the help anyway (i only had a small roller bag and a purse). i was also put in to a room w/2 beds instead of a king w/out knowing it, but again, not a big deal. i had a weird view of a tent - i'm not sure if that is permanent or not, but i was hanging out at the campfire at night anyway :)
