Flowery Branch isn't exactly the mecca for foodies, but it is certainly worth driving to just to dine at Antebellum. Fortunately, I live in the area and can get there without it taking a full tank of gas, BUT I would defintely drive to enjoy some of Chef Nick's meals. I have enjoyed special occasions with large groups and intimate meals with just my husband and everytime I have left with the feeling that Flowery Branch is blessed to have Antebellum. Their fried chicken is wonderful, their steak dishes are always perfectly prepared, and their scallops just melted in my mouth. The salads are worth ordering for sure! One of my favorite dishes their however is their Fried green tomato appetizer! I order it almost every time I go.

You can’t beat my Memom’s cooking. However, there is a restaurant that comes extremely close. Its name is Antebellum, and it’s a farm-to-table restaurant located in Historic Flowery Branch. It was opened by Nick and Alison St. Clair who met in a restaurant. So, how fitting then, that they open a restaurant together. Nick graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in California and is the executive chef. Alison works full-time with special needs children, but also runs the front operations for Nick. The best words used to describe the atmosphere were used by Points North Atlanta Magazine: “Antebellum is indulgently graceful with a sweeping, wraparound porch that is essentially Southern. Inside, soft lighting, hardwood floors, wrought iron decorations and a certain familiarity hearken diners back to the good ‘ole days, and if that doesn’t do it, a lonely train whistle from the nearby railroad line and St. Clair’s unique flair with textures, spices and execution certainly will.”
When you’re looking for amazingly delicious southern cuisine but want to stay away from the fried food and grease, this is the restaurant you have to visit! The flavors that Nick combines and creates give your taste buds a journey into the unknown. His entrée offerings are conceptually intriguing and executed with flair. One critique stated, “His version of fried green tomatoes, served with scrumptious bacon jam, a fried egg, brioche, hot sauce and shaved mimosa ice, is as scrumptious as it is decadent. The sweet potato soup with apple cider cream and fried collard greens was sensational, and we long to sample St. Clair’s grilled andouille sausage with fried chicken, Cajun remoulade, chow-chow peanuts and celery, which he highly recommends.”
The couple has mastered the art of true hospitality with spectacular food offerings. My personal favorite is the grilled wild salmon with crispy cheddar grit cake, smoked tomato vinaigrette, jalapeño jam country ham chip and local greens. A close second is the 8 oz high choice burger with pimento cheese, bacon, Texas toast, horseradish and sweet potato wedges. As you can see from other critiques, everything is 5-star quality and you really can’t make a bad choice! It would be a great romantic date spot as well!

We had a wonderful dinner at Antebellum. The beet salad was one of the best I`ve ever had and my salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband had the pork loin with port marinated cherries and it was very good too. We had the cappuccino semifreddo for dessert. Everything was excellent...the food, presentation and service.
