What a great tavern!

I came there the first time in October 2013 with a friend who recommended it. You may have a look in the clay pots in the kitchen what's available today - but you can also simply ask Stelios to surprise you. And he will! Everything was made from fresh local products and cooked for hours in clay pots on open wood fire. The meat is delicately cooked and you will find very untypical ingredients like chestnuts.
Only two weeks later I had to return - driving more than 100 kilometers over the island just to eat there - it's worth the trip!

We came in Chania just for 3 days and we chose to take a little road trip to local villages. One of those villages we were told were a "must-see" was Drakona.I have the idea that it was the only tavern open in the village at this time of year. The motto of the tavern is "slow food" in a sense that food is a mean of pleasure and you should not rush to eat it but take your time and enjoy it as Stelios the owner told us.Amazing food, great hospitality and excellent sense of humour. No matter what I have to do business-wise next time I visit Chania I will pay this tavern a visit.Key features of the amazing taste is that everything is cooked in wooden ovens and that most (if not all) of the meat , dairy, vegetables are homegrown, so the owner can be 100% sure of the quality of the ingredients he cooks. We had a look at his cellar too and I managed to count about 15 huge barrels of wine!!Endless respect for this man and for what he has achieved. This is a must stop!!Did I forget to mention that it was really cheap considering the quality you get?

The food is delicious, really fantastic. The tastes are unbelievable and you really enjoy the plates. All the meals are hand made in wooden oven and the materials are fresh and produced from the owner. The owner of the restaurant is a good, clever and young professional who really respect the customers and their money. If you go once you will keep going. You must visit this place and taste the excellent food creations!

We've been travelling around Chania region for 10 days and this is the first place we visited twice. It's more like being in someone's home then in a restaurant. Simple, honest home-cooking. There is no menu, you eat what's in the pots that day. If you want a restaurant you may be dissapointed, if you want good home-style meal - this is a great place. It's a tavern in the mountains so no fish or
seafood, there are one-pot meat and vegetable dishes. Great
value - around 25-30€ for two. Such a nice change after touristy restaurants in Chania!
