Description: Ntounias restaurant is a traditional Cretan restaurant with authentic tastes cooked in the wood oven, even the bread is hand made and cooked in the restaurant. Most ingredients are taken from the family farm and many are harvested from the neighboring area. Stelios is a unique person with love for life and cooking, and this spirit you can see, smell and taste in his food! When you visit Ntounias, take your time as we will produce to you to taste our plates, which are different every day. The restaurant is located at Drakona village, east of Therisso village at Keramia, Chania prefecture in west Crete.

This restaurant is not the easiest to find, but when you do, this will stick in your memory.
The place is perched on top of a 600 meter high hilltop overlooking the valleys leading to Chania.
The owner and his wife make you feels very welcome. First taking you into their kitchen to see what is on offer today. Everything is slow roasted in clay pots and made from only organic local ingredients. The cheese from the cow in the backyard, the tomatoes from the garden, the oregano from the hillside, etc.

This is not the place if you want Souvlaki or any other Greek tourist favorites.

On offer for us was roasted baby goat, Dakos, wild boar, green bean salad, home made wine (wow quite strong), and a vegetable and cheese pie that was to die for...

The owners take much pride in keeping everything as organic and local as possible. The quality shows thru.

The drive up the mountain is very nice and I would recommend this for a sunset dinner.

This place was recommended to me and my girlfriend by Florian, a guide from Plakias. On our way to Chania-Airport we made a little slide and it was wonderful. We took the road throug Therisio Gorge up to the mountain, where Drokona is placed. The road is small and represents the beautiful roughness of this island. And exactly that is, what Ntounias does. There is not much to describe, because there are no words. The food is phantastic, the hospitality great. The whole family is friendly and advises you in local specifications, if you are interested. Just look at our photo's.
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

We drove the way to Therissa along the gorge and then through the mountain to Drakona a wonderful drive to this place.

Stelios is very friendly and low profiled and although he claims that his food is very simple at the end someone realizes that it is highly sofisticated and deserves congrads.

Ask him for his secret cheese zelokoumpi....

We tried also his red dry wine which gives a smoked aftertaste and combined with the freshly baked bread and mitzithra as a starter gives you the opportunity to understand what will come next as he defines himself the hole sequence of the coming plates concerning not only combinations but also quantities..

it is realy worth to eat at this place....

Although high in the hills, this restaurant is well worth the drive. The road is not too bad from Mournes to Drakona and then, after feasting on the most amazingly tasty food cooked slowly in pots on burning fires and in old ovens, take the road onto Theriso and down through the gorge - it is magical. Whilst eating on the terrace you will overlook stunning views of the mountains.
The welcome you receive at the restaurant is genuine and the couple are passionate about their food and presenting you with a real taste of Crete. There are no menus, you will just be taken into the kitchen to see what is cooking. This is not just a brilliant place to eat, it is a whole experience of the traditional way of living, cooking and the famous Cretan hospitality. Not to be missed.
