Description: Ntounias restaurant is a traditional Cretan restaurant with authentic tastes cooked in the wood oven, even the bread is hand made and cooked in the restaurant. Most ingredients are taken from the family farm and many are harvested from the neighboring area. Stelios is a unique person with love for life and cooking, and this spirit you can see, smell and taste in his food! When you visit Ntounias, take your time as we will produce to you to taste our plates, which are different every day. The restaurant is located at Drakona village, east of Therisso village at Keramia, Chania prefecture in west Crete.

What is more to say than the experience itself!! A super friendly enviroment with great traditional "slow food" cretan recipes + organic, hand made bread, that Stelios and his family has prepared..More than that, feeling that you are home and everything is so yummy ..thats fantastic!!

The most traditional-bio restaurant in chania area. The food was excellent, hospitality lovable and the scenery is breathtaking. It is a MUST visit if anyone is in Crete. Avoid sundays if you can as it is the busiest day of the week! We thank Stelio and his family for keeping the cretan spirit alive.

Had a near death experience on the way up the mountain, but we arrived safely at a quaint little building on top of a hill which appears to be the only building in the "town". I arrived expecting to sit at a table and look at a menu... instead random plates of food started arriving all of which were delicious. It became apparent after the 3rd dish, that you do not order food here, it's whatever food he cooked that day.

Our Mountain Man meals were:
Cauliflower dish (I suspect cheese?) The tables favorite and was really good.
Red Kidney Beans (Delicious)
Geep(Goat/Sheep) Which our waiter was kind enough to tell us "I shot this earlier today" :)
Mashed Chicpeas (Originally thought to be humus was also delicious)
Goat Cheese (Amazing, squeaked like cheese curds)
Baked Potato (we have no idea how he cooked this so much better than we can cook it)
Bread (Crust was extremely hard, but the inner bread was thick and delicious)

You can tell a lot of love was put into the food, and the owner took pride in knowing that we enjoyed it. Everything was extremely fresh, filling, dirt cheap, unique, and of course delicious.

Unfortunately I don't see myself coming back to Crete anytime soon, but if I did, this would be the first place I would stop. Best restaurant I ate at during my 4 month stay in Crete.

No1 destination for gastronomic tourists in Crete, the capital of traditional gourmet in Greece. A rich diet based only on local fresh products cultivated and cooked according to vernacular wisdom. The restaurant is the personal pride of both its owner, Stelios, and of the whole region of Chania, Crete. Don't miss the unique opportunity for an unchallenged taste of the richness of mediterranean kitchen including a variety of vegetables, roots as well as patiently baked local meat. I've been traveling continuously for the past 20 years.... looking for the perfect meal. For the past 5 years, since my first visit to Ntounias, this restaurant has been of the reasons for keeping returning to Chania all year round. Would you care for a hint? Just let Stelios choose for you!
