“People must be trained!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

In general hotel facilities are great! You`ll find an amazing pool, rooms are simple but comfortable and most of beverages and liquors found in hotel bars are of good quality. Such description might give an idea of a perfect all inclusive hotel (and probably that will be you first impression on arriving) but the truth is that small things must be rapidly solved to make this a real 5 stars all inclusive hotel. Firstly, they don't provide food/snacks 24h/day as expected. In fact, they provide you with breakfast, lunch and dinner but it's hard to find snacks to eat in the middle. I still don't understand why there are no beverages, liquors at rooms. Actually, at least water should be provided and it isn't. Even on bars staff never strives to make guests stay more pleasant. If the bar doesn't have lemon, in example, the barmen don't worry in recharge it, they simply tell you to look at another place. Well, I`m not saying the hotel is bad, the opposite, but they need to improve the level of their services to worth the price they charge.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms nearer to the lobby or pool, the block 4 is far from restaurants and pool and you...

My husband and I went to San Andres in March, we stayed for 5 days at the Isleño Decameron Hotel all included (5*). The hotel is modern all around, it's so big, with a paradaise beach and an awesome pool that goes around the whole hotel. The bedroom was very comfortable, they always kept it clean, and every day they gave us extra amenities wich i love. It was a wonderful experience, not just becasue of the hotel but becasue of the tours we made thanks to the "travel agency" that works for them.. They picked us up at a certain hour and went to two different islands, where we had lunch and swam with lots of colorful fish.
We love the fact that it was all included, and we could go down to the bar at any time and get something to drink. The food isnt ALWAYS there, it has schedules wich i think its good, but i think maybe a snack bar that is there all the time, with sandwiches or things like that would be great also.

I have some downs unfortunally, not because I want to talk bad about the hotel, but becasue I would like to go back and I would love for them to change what I am about to say.

1.- The food wasnt fresh. If you are at an island I would suggest to have fresh food, and also a lot more variety of it. I would suggest different types of fish, lobster, crab etc..
2.- "Snack Bar", it wasn't good at all. The hamburguer was so dry, and the soup it was the same every day. No change. The hotel should have Room Service also (super important!).
3.- Wi-fi, was ok, but it could be a lot better. It was annoying having to ask the front desk agents for another user name an password at leat two times a day just becasue it would get disconected and wouldn't let me connect again.
4.- Some of the waitresses, and waiters were nice, but some of them could really work on giving a smile once in a while and also to not having a look like your job is really boring and frustrating.
5.- Some 5 star hotels give out pastry trays, a bottle of wine / champagne or some other type of amenity when you are on your honeymoon or its your birthday, etc, we couldn't find anything in our room, but it didn't bother us.. it would've been nice to find something though.

Don't get me wrong... I would love to go back to El Isleño, I had an awesome time, I just really hope the hotel takes my comments seriously so that way they can work at it and be the best hotel in the island. I know they are a new hotel (a couple of months old), and obviously they are still trying to make everything perfect.

All together the hotel was great. It was really relaxing, super comfortable, and very clean. Hopefully my husband and I go back there very soon. =)

It started badly - we tried to check-in at 12:30 but were told that the earliest would be 3:00 pm. I asked for a room in building 6 but was told that they could only allocate rooms based on availability and she did not know if their would be any vacancies in that block. One would have thought that any reservation system would be able to immediately identify vacancies. It turns out that the majority of staff are new and are not from sister hotels in the Decameron chain. Apparently the other hotels did not want to release their staff so the majority of staff have zero hotel experience - and it shows!

So, we asked for towels since we could use the facilities. It is the hotel's policy that guests can only receive beach towels when they have their room! We asked to speak to the manager at which stage we were given the tokens to receive the towels. We went to get the towels but were told they were awaiting delivery from another Decameron Hotel - they promised they would be there in 20 minutes. In fact they arrived at 4:30pm!! Not exactly 20 minutes later and without any apologies from the staff for the delay.

We asked for coco locos at the poolside bar and we got a strange red concoction.

So, our first impressions of the hotel were very negative. Happily, it started to get better very quickly. We were give a room in Building 1 on the 2nd floor (or 3rd floor in Colombia! 1 = ground) which overlooked the swimming pool and sea - spectacular views!! The room was very spacious, clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. We had the best nights sleep we have probably ever had during a holiday. The bathroom is spacious and overall we very very impressed and passed many evenings enjoying the views from the balcony.

The food was different every day - fresh, nutritious, varied. The dining room staff were always very attentive and friendly. During our stay a new restaurant was opened, we dined there twice and the food was delicious!

The location of the hotel is the best on the island, opposite the best beach with 10 tents (including 1 lounger and 1 chair) reserved for the use of guests, though you need to be there before 9:00 am as they go very quickly. The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the shops and you can also use the facilities of the 2 other Decameron hotels nearby - Los Delfines and El Acuario.

There are a number of other bar tenders who can make the correct cocktails so it's a matter of having patience. Also, all the spirits are top brands unlike in other hotels where they serve the cheapest.

It is a new hotel so the service can only get better and there will be even more restaurant opportunities in the future as more restaurants are opened (we were told there will be 5 or 6 restaurants here when all is finished).

There was musical entertainment every night and it finished at 11:00 pm so did not interrupt our beauty sleep!

So, would we recommend this to a friend? We already have and we will be back later in the year.

Room Tip: Building 1 is near to the restaurant and lobby, with views of the sea and swimming pool. Building 6...

Pros:
- Nice property. Well kept grounds. We saw people cleaning and maintaning all the time.
- The best beach of the island is right in front of the hotel.
- Room size was good.
- They gave us the best sea view!
- Brand new hotel!!!
- You can use the amenities of all the other Decameron properties, including the Rocky Cay Beach Club.
- Free Wi-fi that works. Although the strength of the signal could be better inside the room.
- Nice pools.
- Short walk to downtown using Paseo Peatonal.
- You don't have to get a taxi to/from the airport since the hotel is just a 4 minute walk from there. Airplane noises don't bother since there aren't many flights.

Cons:
- Early check-in/late check-out is absolutely prohibited! They won't even check in the system! It is the hotel's policy.
- Food is god but the menu is extremely limited. The buffet has always a few options that may not be good for all tastes.
- All the juices are made from concentrates. Nothing is natural here.
- No transportation to other Decameron properties.
- Price.
- Bed could be better. It was a little bit hard!

We stayed at this hotel in February\March of 2014.

Check in was a breeze and was very quick. The front desk staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room over looked the beach and was nicely appointed and very clean.

The only comment we have on the room was the amount of light during the night. We were able to jury rig the curtains and cover the bathroom window and block the light. We did experience a couple of days of almost no hot water but that was rectified.

The food was excellent and we never tired of eating at this resort. The menu was large and varied. Of all of the Decameron resorts we visited to eat at this by far had the best food and service.

The weather was perfect, not a drop of rain during our two week stay. The ocean was clean and very warm and relaxing. The pools were also very nice, clean and warm.

We will definitely return. This is our third trip to the island, and our third Decameron hotel, and it will be the one we return to.

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean view on the top floor.

When we first attended hotel let say we were impressed. We were greeted by friendly staff and got to our room quickly. The room was bright and clean , the view was spectacular . Now let's down to problems first lack of hot water called and complained still had same problem on last day wi fi was spotty in our room . They are working on this problem. Second was dinning room staff very confused and not very attentive thank god for Johnny ,food was ok but not spectacular . Third beach chairs were not free to hotel guests like in years past. Best things of hotel front desk staff very helpful , bar staff friendly and know how to mix drinks. The pool is spectacular . The entertainment was first class two bands every night.best thing we learned is there will be flights out of Toronto next season . With all said I'm sure hotel is working on these problems and we will go there next year. They say this is a five star but is really a three star.

Room Tip: Tower 6 or 1

Nice new hotel, beautiful weather good food. The staff is friendly but some of them only speak spanish but its ok. Beach is nice and is public, too many dogs hanging around. The city should pass a law prohibiting dogs on The beach.

Would go again
