Wanted to stay at the Ritz but it was $125 more a night than the Lodge- next time I won't be so cheap. Maybe for a family with small children and a limited budget this place would be okay, but not for most. The lobby is dated, the vending machines didn't work and the staff, while extremely friendly, had trouble answering basic questions. All that would be acceptable if the rooms weren't so awful. The only good thing about them is they are large. The carpet is old, stained in spots. The bathroom was also old, not super clean, and and had peeling paint and brown water stains in the ceiling. The TV was the next step above black and white

We spent a pleasent Labor Day at the lodge. The room was comfortable and clean, everything worked well. The place is beautifully landscaped. Restaurants and public recreation areas, with beaches, are nearby.

We stayed here one night last week. Overall it was a good place for the price. The room was mostly clean, the bed was comfortable and the staff was pleasant. The free breakfast was an usually tasty good deal for a lower priced motel; sausage, eggs, grits, lots of breads and pastries, waffles and better-than-usual coffee.
Only two negatives:
. We stayed in Room 331. The shower curtain is moldy. It needs to be replaced or at least cleaned.
. More light is needed for the entrance off the street. There is a hedge across the front of the property and after dark, it's not easy to see where to turn. The traffic is fast-moving. An accident is a real possibility.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms on the ground floor would be very noisy when you have loud crowds in the halls. F...

We had a couple visiting that were considering moving to the Lake Oconee area. The Ritz was booked full so we set them up for 3 nights at the Lodge. Thankfully, my husband went to check on the room to be sure it was ok as he read the reviews and became alarmed. SO glad he went to actually see and select a room for our guests. Of the 5 rooms he looked at, only one was "good". Stains on carpet and chairs and ceiling tiles, no cookies in the container at the front desk, overall feel of old and dismal. The Lodge was originally sold as private units but later turned in to a hotel so each room is owned privately and it is up to that owner whether or not to update, fix, take of their unit. Sad that we don't have a nice hotel in this area that is reasonably priced, clean, and nice. For the room we booked, it should have been 1/2 of what we paid. We will not refer anyone to the Lodge.

Room Tip: GO and look before you book or check in....VIP.

We stayed here for the weekend and had a great time. We took our fishing boat as they have free docking there. The hotel is very clean and the view from the room overlooking the lake was beautiful. The breakfast was very good also with the view of the pool and lake. I am only giving a 3 rating on the rooms because our bathroom looked like it was in the middle of some work to be done as the wall(behind the toilet) needed to be sanded(had spackle on it) and painted.

OK, Many good and great reviews for this place so I was excited to stay here on my first visit to lake Oconee.
We were looking for potential property in the area so our weekend was full of house hunting activites.
I'll start with the disappointments:
1- Check in lady was less than stellar or friendly.
2- Drunken family reunion of 25-50 folks started at 6.00 pm by the pool and ended sometime past 1.30 am. All "lake view" rooms are literally feet from the pool, so 1/2 the guests this weekend god to be part of the raucous reunion. Thank god we did not have little kids. Where was management? Truly unbelievable and constant noise and drunken screaming.
3- Lake view is not worth 25 cents more than a non lake view room, the property is at the very end of a cove so not much to see through the windows.
4- Kayaks, and paddle boats excited us as we saw them. As when we walked down to check them out, they were really pretty nappy. As we inquired back at front desk, it took a long whole to come up with the 'rental" rates for these less than stellar toys.
5- Breakfast offered was 100% starch.

The Good:
1- The actual room and interior of the hotel is noble and comfortable.
2- The replacement for the front lady was a nice guy who worked hard getting breakfast stocked and folks out during check out.

I would not recommend this for any type of a family or romantic vacation. For a golf trip or other biz venture, it's fine, make sure to not get a lake front room, not worth the gamble of all night pool parties.

Room Tip: Do not get the lake front, pool front rooms.

We were in town on business for one night but we had such an amazing time that we ended up staying an extra night! The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is amazing. We had our breakfast by the pool overlooking the lake. We used the kayaks that the Lodge offers and paddled around the lake. The location on the lake is perfect because you are right on the water but away from the boats and jet skiers that can be so loud and annoying.

We are looking forward to coming back again when we can stay longer. The staff was wonderful and provided great suggestions for restaurants.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room on the lake side but we saw several rooms and they were all nice. If yo...
