Extended Stay America - Atlanta - Duluth
Reviewed May 9, 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend for business. The location was close to restaurants and shopping, but there was a very busy intersection that you could only turn one direction into and out of, which made it more difficult.
The room came with a full sized refrigerator, small microwave, and small cook-top. They had some plates, bowls and utensils, but it was questionable on how clean they were. They did provide washcloth and dishsoap, however. There was no continental breakfast provided.
There was bar soap in the bathroom, but no shampoo or conditioner provided. There was a hair dryer, but was so clogged with lint at the back, I am glad I brought my own. The room and bathroom were clean.
The hallway had a fairly strong odd, unpleasant odor. The room had a faint smell, slightly muggy/mildewy, likely from the humidity. It seemed to go away (or maybe I just got used to it?) after blasting the air/con for a while.
When I checked in, the front desk staff was very friendly. But that is the last I saw of them - the desk was empty when I left in the mornings and came back at night. There was no one at the desk when I went to check-out either, which I found very odd.
I do not think I would stay at this location again.

I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Atlanta - Gwinnett Place. Our company prides itself on excellent guest service, so it was gratifying to read your feedback about our staff. I would like to give you my most heartfelt apology regarding the part of your stay that was not satisfactory.

We specialize in providing clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable price. I take seriously your concern, however, and assure you that we work very hard to explain exactly what we offer to our guests before they arrive. I am, of course, very sorry that we were unable to make our offerings more clear to you before you checked in, and hope that you will keep our hotel in mind when your future needs are for an accommodation like ours.

It's not common that we get the sort of feedback you provided, and although it is discouraging to read, it will help us make our hotel even better in the future. Let me apologize again that your stay was not completely satisfying, and assure you that we will continue to listen to our guests in forums like this one or directly (please visit our website and click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page). I hope we have addressed your concern satisfactorily, and that you would give us the pleasure of having you as a guest again at this hotel or any other Extended Stay Hotels(sm) brand location in the future.

This was probably the most awful stay I have ever had in a hotel in my life. My fiance and I checked in very late and as soon as we checked in, the lady at the front desk left for the night. It was rainy and we didn't feel like going out to find something to eat and decided we would just get a drink and a quick snack out of the vending machine, but that was behind closed and locked doors that we couldn't get to. So we had to leave the hotel to find something to eat and in the area that the hotel was to get back to it, there was alot of cop traffic and to turn back off the main road to get to the hotel was impossible except for coming from one direction and one direction only as no U-Turns were allowed. So it took us forever to get back to the hotel. The room smelled terribly like cigarette and cigar smoke to the point that I had a headache the entire time I was there and it was supposed to be a "non-smoking" room. We couldn't tell the front desk about it and get moved to another room because she left as soon as we checked in. The bed was awful. The sheets weren't the cleanest and I think plywood would have been more comfortable and softer than what the bed was. When my fiance and I each took showers in the morning, the shower head made an awful, high pitched, ear screeching sound the entire time. Again, this was the most awful hotel I've ever stayed in and I would not reccommend this to my worst enemy.

Me and my fiance had a wonderful stay. The front desk was very helpful with everything and the room we had was absolutely amazing. I could not have asked for more in a hotel. When we travel we know where we will be stay from now on.

Look, when you book a property in the ESA chain, you know going in that it's not the Ritz. Heck, it's not even the Holiday Inn. I hadn't been to one of their properties for a few years, but decided to give this one a try because it's in a good location and the price was right. Unfortunately, this is a chain that's become really tough to like, much less love.

ESA's Web site boasted, "Grand Opening - New Hotel," but it already looks like it's seen better days. The kitchen counter was full of chips and slashes, though that didn't stop the ants from crawling across it. After maintenance sprayed, the pests vanished.

I don't mind that you only get housekeeping once a week. I can walk the trash down the hall, and they let you exchange the old towels for fresh ones daily, so it's no big deal. But when we didn't get housekeeping on our scheduled day and I asked why, I was told it was probably because we had the 'do not disturb' sign out until 10:30 a.m. The maids, I was told, start as early as 7 a.m. I know it's a discount place, but seven in the morning? C'mon!

Had the requisite drunks one night, but luckily only one night. This is not the most secure hotel you'll ever stay at. And for some reason, rather that have the room key open the laundry room door, you need to ask the front desk person to come over and open it with a special key. Too much hassle, so we found a nearby laundromat.

On the plus side, the beds and pillows were extremely comfy. There was plenty of hot water. The TV had a decent, if not extensive, selection. Having a full fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and all of the dishes and utensils was a big plus for a week's stay. Wireless Internet is $5 for the entire stay, and was very good.

If you're looking for this kind of place but at a better level, spend a few more bucks and go to a Candlewood, Staybridge, TownePlace or Residence Inn. I think we're done with ESA.

I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Atlanta - Gwinnett Place. Our company prides itself on providing great service and great rooms at great rates, which is why I was so disappointed to read your post. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

As this hotel’s manager, I challenge our staff to continually improve the experience of our guests, from the cleanliness of our rooms, to the courteous professionalism of our staff.
