“Went for lunch off the beaten path in Decatur”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

I think this place gets overlooked as it is not directly on the square. its a couple of blocks away but easily walkable and worth it! 5 of us went and everyone was pleased.

I had the tuna tostada and a pork taco. It would have been about 10-11 bucks for that and it was completely filling. A big eater may need an extra taco or some cheese dip. The do bring chips and salsa and the chips were fresh and the salsa was VERY good. I'm not a huge salsa eater but this was excellent.
My lunch dates had tacos, a torta (sandwich) and the seafood salad. Everything was very fresh! The torta is a great deal at 9 bucks because it was a nice sized bun filled with stuff and then a size of perfectly cooked fries. Seriously, they were perfect. The full size salad also comes as a half. 2 people split it so they could try soup and tacos. It was fresh mixed greens (no iceberg) with a nice portion of seafood ceviche. The gazpacho was said to be good as well.

My only complaint was that the server was a little slow but then we gave the impression we were not in a hurry. He was still attentive just not in a hurry. I dont mind.

“Reopened MARBAR is much improved”
Reviewed June 7, 2014 via mobile

MARBAR just reopened in late May 2014 with a new chef and a new staff, so all the reviews prior to 6/1/14 apply to the previous MAR which tended more towards fine dining. It is now much more a bar with food and at a lower price point. Our house margaritas were excellent and they honored our request that they not be sweet. The complimentary salsas, green and red, were house made and excellent; however, the chips were not. We started with MARBAR ceviche and greatly enjoyed the generous portion. That was followed by cochinita pibil tacos and enchiladas pollo verde - both excellent. I can't resist comparing to the prior incarnation. The menu is simpler and some of my prior favorites are missing - but the kitchen gets the food out quickly! Overall the wait staff service was good with a couple minor lapses, much better than before, and to be expected with new staff. Let's check back in September on this. Next I want to explore the wines and beers.

“Ran out of guacamole?!”
Reviewed November 26, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Apparently the night we chose to visit was the night they had a big menu change. As a result, they had no salsa, no guacamole and were out of several menu items. We had two drinks and went across the street for dinner. The place itself is quite nice, great back patio and its a good looking establishment. The servers were friendly...seems like we just caught them on an off night.

“Fresh and Hip”

Great new find. Fresh approach to Mexican with tasty fare without the heavy cheese and beans of most Mexican restaurants.
