It's a long way to Buckhead from where we live near the Outlet Mall so we were intrigued by the Blue Bicycle's billboard proclaiming "Buckhead Dining without the Drive". Being avid cyclists the name got our attention as well.
Our expectations weren't very high as we parked and surveyed the rather nondescript front door of the restaurant in an equally nondescript, well hidden class B strip plaza. next to the Outlet Mall.
Everything changed when we went inside and met the owner and his wife. Where to start... the food is fantastic .. rather French, smaller portions but freshly prepared and always unique,... this is definitely not an American chain restaurant. The wine selection is short but interesting, their "story" is one we can all relate to, they have several special event prix fixe nights throughout the year, and the prices are very reasonable. For example, each year they do a night dedicated to the release of Beaujolais Nouveax featuring unlimited Beaujolais and a four course meal (I had the trout) for under $100 a couple.
Suffice to say that we have become regulars, dining with them 5-6 times a year. It has become our special occasion "date night" place. This past New Years we invited 4 other couples to make the trek to Dawsonville and everyone was impressed.
The service can sometimes be slow on a busy night but there is no snob factor whatsoever as the owners are regular Joes and the staff are mostly local college students. It's in the country after all.
With the expansion of their bar area we will sometimes stop by on Saturday afternoon for a glass of wine with some bread and cheese after shopping at the Outlets.
They are closed Sunday and Monday for family time and to shop for the next week's meals.
