I stayed in the lodge when I took older son to begin hiking the Appalachian Trail. The lodge was beautiful and the rooms were very nice and clean. Beds were especially comfortable and luxurious, not rustic. The service was especially friendly. Genuine Southern hospitality. It is in remote location, but if you are interested in hiking, either short hikes or long treks, this is N excellent spot.

Room Tip: Cabins are also available.

We realize that staying in a state park is not the Ritz Carlton, but overall, it has been a wonderful experience! The dinner was a great deal for the price, and the chef tried to be creative while doing a buffet. The breakfast chef needs to improve on his food- everything was on the greasy side, and nonwhere near the variety of the entrees served at dinner- we even had paella our first night. The rooms need updating and maintenance- the wood floors are scuffed, and our window frame in our room was broken, and my handyman husband felt he should volunteer his services to fix the flaws in the room. The drapes were very worn. We loved the view, the location, and the hiking trails. I realize that they are on a tight budget for maintenence, but I think that my husband would volunteer his time to help make things nicer. We plan to come back

My wife and me visited Amicalola falls park at the end of february. We stayed in Cabin #5 which is at the bottom of the park and is a pet friendly cabin. There was a 25% discount for the entire month so our cabin averaged $59.00 a night which is one of the reasons we decided to stay in the park as this was our first visit to North Georgia. We were very pleased with our stay. We did not expect alot from the cabin with it being so cheap and being a state park cabin. We were pleasently surprised. The cabin was by no means fancy but was very comfortable. The cabin had 2 beds in the bedroom and both were very comfortable. The bedroom is very close to the creek and we slept the first night with the window open and enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the creek rushing by. It was pretty cold during our stay so we were only able to do that 1 night as the bedroom got very cold. As stated, the cabin was not fancy and 2 of the 4 kitchen table chairs looked to unstable to sit on and the bathroom was fairly rundown. However the few minus's did not detract from the comfort and value of the cabin. There is a full kitchen with everything needed including fridge, microwave, coffee maker, all untensils, plates and glasses. There were 3 couches with 1 having a pullout bed. There is also a tv with satellite dish. The cabin has heat and air conditioning and several ceiling fans. We did not try the a/c but the heat worked very well. Directly behind the cabin is a firepit and 4 chairs and also a picnic table. We enjoyed having a fire every night while listening to the sound of the creek and cooked dinner on the fire 3 of the nights as there is an adjustable grate on the back of the firepit.Firewood is available at the lodge for $4 a bag. We ate at the lodge twice. Once for dinner and it was better than average and once for breakfast and while breakfast was cheap,it was awful. The closest grocery store is about 25-30 minutes away so get all your supplies on 1 trip. There are several nice hiking trails in the park and we did every one of them, my wife even did the 8.5 mile there and 8.5 mile back trail to get to the appalachian trail. All in all its a great little park and the cabin was a great value. Also midway through our stay they dropped off a bag at the front door with fresh towels, garbage bags and toilet paper. Also in the closet there are extra blankets and pillows.

Room Tip: Cabin #5 is pet friendly. I believe there are only 2 pet friendly cabins in the park. There are 5 ca...

My wife and I enjoyed two nights at the lodge at Amicalola State Park. Our room was on the fourth floor and it had a wonderful view of the area near the park. The room was clean, especially the bathroom. The bathroom was a bit small but adequate. One negative experience we had was that the water in our bathroom never got hot, just tepid at best. We reported this and a maintenance man came to our room very quickly, but the water never got even really warm. Our bed was a king-size one and was a little lumpy, but OK. The best part of our room was the view.
Breakfast was included with our room, and we had choices that included yogurt, cereal, waffles, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, powdered eggs, and biscuits. We could choose from three types of juices and coffee or tea were included, as well. Our server in the restaurant at breakfast was friendly and made us feel welcome. Indeed, the staff at the lodge were all nice and very friendly. We chose to eat dinner at the lodge's restaurant and most of the food seemed to have been previously frozen or poured out of a bag. Still, for the price (about $12.00 per person), it was OK.
The big attraction of this lodge is its location, and we enjoyed hiking on the approach trail to the Appalachian Trail. We really enjoyed being able to just park our vehicle and relax at the lodge.

Room Tip: The rooms on the fourth floor have the best views. Also, the rooms with lower numbers are the farthe...

I went to a women's retreat with my church this past weekend. It was held at this lodge in a Georgia State Park. The lodge is perched high above the beautiful Amicalola Falls. The views from the lodge are gorgeous and most rooms have large windows with a view. The rooms are small but pleasant and clean, with comfortable beds and simple decor.
The food was very good, too. In fact it has greatly improved over the years. We had London Broil, sirloin steak and some stuffed fillet of white fish...all delicious. The dessert selection was vast, including sugar free. I just wish they would change up the offerings on the salad bar. They didn't change from meal to meal, although they offered lots of fresh fruit. They even serve wine and beer now! Whoo-hoo!

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room with a view...most have a view, but it would be a shame to miss the gorgeo...

I had read some of the reviews & was really surprised, especially about the food. My husband & I stayed the night here 2/4/12. We were just delighted. We had a jr. suite on the 1st floor that was huge & had a private patio. The view was just incredible. Yes it's older but for a state park lodge it was fine. Dinner & breakfast at the Maple Restaurant was very good & we were delighted we could order a beer & a glass of wine with our dinner. Would love to come back for the Sunday brunch & mimosa's in the spring, summer & fall!

My family and I have been travelling the hours drive to Amicalola Falls for a good 10 years or so. We have been at various times of the year and with young children and grandparents.

The base of the falls trail is indeed a strenous climb, but there are plenty of resting spots and the view from the top is much more beautiful when you take the trail rather than drive.

Oh, and do not forget to stop at the visitors center. Everyone we have come in contact with there has been SUPER friendly. The last time we visited (December I think) we got to see up close a screech owl and a great horned owl.
