This was our first experience going on a 5 mile hike to the Len Foote Hike In...what an incredible accomplishment. I say accomplishment cause I'm not a fitness buff just a person who enjoys leisurely strolls outdoors. It was about a 2 1/2-3 hour hike but the trail can be hiked quicker. The lodge is beautiful and rustic. The rooms are simple and clean. The bunk beds have a comfortable mattress and the ceiling heater puts out a lot of heat which is nice on those cold winter nights. Definitely enjoyed the nice warm shower after the long hike. Dinner and breakfast is served family style and the food was superb! Take what you want but eat what you take...not to hard to do but for some people that saying seems to be a little challenging.. however there is definitely enough food to be eaten and enjoyed. We loved going to the game room after dinner. There are many books, games, puzzles to enjoy. The staff is very friendly and we are already looking ahead planning our next trip to Len Foote...we loved it and will definitely be back!

WOW, what a little piece of heaven only 5 miles up the mountain. We had horrible weather but it didn't matter. The hike is beautiful and what you bring up is what you bring down so pack light but efficient. There is a bath house, game room, and dining hall where they ring the bell when dinner is being served. The dinner was family style and pretty good but breakfast lacked. (over cooked eggs). THey are totally green so what you don't eat on your plate gets weighed so don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach. The game room is awesome but needs some new supplies of games. Most had pieces missing, torn and worn out. One guitar and some badly beat up other instruments. It could be so much more. They need to work on that. So if you feel like donating some items and don't mind hiking up with them do it. They could use them. The rooms are just basic bunk beds with nothing else. It's like camping with a roof over your head. Overall great experience. Just don't expect luxury. We personally loved it!

Room Tip: All the rooms have walls that are paper thin so treat this like a camp ground with camp ground etiqu...

We have stayed at a few hik inn lodges and let me tell you this is the best ever! After a leasurly 5 mile hike I did not expect to see this huge beautiful lodge! The rooms are bunk beds, nothing fancy but certenly adequate. After all the idea isn't to stay in the room it's to explore the outdoors and enjoy the lodge. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was hearty and delicious. And the general area was full of games and warm smiles. Hot water in the showers and clean as a pin privy's. This is an Eco friendly environment where everyone is welcome from paying guest to thru hikers and day hikers. There is always hot water for hot chocolate and cold water to restock your camelback. My husband and I did this hike to celebrate our 31st anniversary. This was our first visit to Len Foote but won't be our last!

first of all, you have to hike 5 miles of up and down to get to this place, about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hike.
the room are nothing special, just bunk beds one set per room for 2, nice clean bath house and dinning hall which they feed you dinner and breakfast (family style). Food was good, like dinner better than breakfast. the staff is helpful and friendly.

Don't expect the Ritz when you take a trip to the Hike Inn. This is for the adventurous only. It requires a 5 mile hike over moderate terrain to reach a sustainable lodge at the top of a mountain. Sleep in bunk beds and use a bath house. Food is served family style but it is always delicious. Your stay includes dinner and full breakfast. You can also order a lunch for your hike back out. Well worth the trip if you are up for an adventure.

What a great concept, a "Hike in" only INN. After a 5 mile hike from Amicolola State Park near Dawsonville, greeted with a beautiful inn in the middle of the forest with a spectacular view. Meals provided, housing for 40 persons in 20 rooms. A very attentive staff, intent to make you have a perfect experience. Don't miss the sun rising, a neat experience as well as the 5pm overview of the concept and history of Len Foote Hike Inn. A definite addition to your life "to do" list. Follow of Facebook for specials, or check out their website. Enjoy, and I will repeat my stay in the near future.

Heard about this inn several years ago when we were in the area and decided to try it the next time we were here. Stay at the Amicalola Lodge one night before (or after your hike-in) and you get a 10% discount on your stay at the lodge. The Inn is a 5 mile hike - up and down hills to get there, but quite beautiful scenery (the last mile or so I found to be the best as the forest is the thickest). The Inn is very beautiful from the outside - modern design - four buildings (bunkhouse, bathhouse, kitchen/dinning room, games room). The games room is limited in what they have to play or read. Unless you only like reading nature books, bring your own material. A wood burning stove in the middle of the room will drive you outside after burning a log or two with the heat it generates. Bath house is simple and clean (com posting toilets, but absolutely no odour). The bunkhouse is just that - a bunkhouse - wooden bunk beds (not comfortable) that you make on your own and unmake when you leave (they give you the sheets and towel on arrival) - one light in the room, moderate heat (for the fall), but I don't know how a cold day in the winter would be. Dinner and breakfast are served family style and sufficient however, very basic and sufficient I think because many visitors pass on what is being served (there's a road out back - they could bring in some other choices). They also tend to hound/emphasize a little too much on the environmental issues - weighing the leftovers to give you a smiley or frowning face after meals - you do your own clean up - snacks available during the afternoon tend to be gone in no time due to limited amount and staff helping themselves - congratulating the kitchen staff on the work they've done (isn't that their job?). The games room has a nice wrap around balcony with chairs however, if you want a view you're out of luck - a case of you can't see much because of the trees. I've been to other outdoor/forest facilities before, this one is much nicer on the outside, just average on the inside, but sorely lacking in the activities they could offer their visitors. One night here is more than enough - actually, a little too long - we arrived early in the afternoon to enjoy (?) the lodge and left right after breakfast to get on our way and enjoy somewhere else. You can take the same route back as you took in (the better of the two choices), or the approach trail to the Appalachian Trail, then a switchback trail back to Amicalola Lodge (this route is slightly longer - 5.3 miles and less scenic than the other trail in).

Room Tip: All rooms the same - two wooden bunks and a stool.
