Bill and Jan were wonderful inn keepers. They really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed the area while we were there. They were very personable and made us feel like family in their home. Great food ,great rooms and breathtaking views!

My husband and I stayed for the first time at the Blue Heron Inn in Darien Ga. We were looking for a quite place to get away and relax and we found the perfect spot! The house and rooms are beautiful and the views from the deck overlooking the marsh is wonderful. The bird watching was second to none and we also enjoyed a bon fire on Saturday night with great company.
Jan makes the best breakfast! We enjoyed sweet potato pancakes, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, Belgian waffles and a breakfast casserole and all the fresh coffee we could take in. Just fantastic.
If you are looking for fast paced adventure, this is not it. If you are looking for a night life, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a slow pace in a beautiful setting with fantastic atmosphere, then this is the place for you. Fabulous host and we will come again.

Room Tip: There are rooms with no TV and some with, so ask before booking if this is an issue for you. Also 2 of the rooms have very small showers so if you are on the larger size, I would check that as well when booking.

This was our second visit with Bill & Jan at the Blue Heron and we enjoyed it thoroughly. We find it so peaceful and relaxing. They are very laid back folks, easy to visit with and make you feel at home. We love sitting on the deck and watching the birds and the marsh view. For the second time we also visited Harris Neck Wildlife refuge, this time with rental bikes which is a great way to explore there. Another highlight was a boat ride on the Altamaha River with Chery from Darien River Runs. She is very knowledgeable and a delightful host. We were thrilled to have her point out a bald eagle for us and she showed us it's nest though we just missed seeing the recently fledged eaglets. Touring the river was so relaxing and refreshing -nice to see such unspoiled beauty. One last bit of advice, check out the Olive Affairs store in downtown Darien. We needed to find someplace open for lunch on a Monday and they offer a few options, all of which were amazing. I am not an olive fan but I loved his olive tampanade on a muffaletta sandwich- yum! Our friends had the gourmet grilled cheese and loved that too.

Room Tip: We had the Savannah room this time and Shell Seeker last time. Savannah is a bit small but we spent most of the time on the deck anyway. Both of those rooms have small bathrooms so next time we may choose one of the other two for more bathroom space. All are nice though.

We found a tranquil retreat at the Blue Heron Inn Bed and Breakfast. Set at the edge of a salt marsh on the Georgia coast we were able to relax, watch the birds, walk and kayak. My runner husband was able to put together a 5+ mile run which made him a happy camper.

The accommodations were lovely. Our room was small but opened out onto the shared balcony so we didn't feel cramped. It was delightful to grab a mug of coffee from the dining room and take it back up to the balcony to watch the sun come up over the marsh. The breakfasts were scrumptious, especially the scones.

Bill and Jan were great hosts, knowledgeable about the area and happy to share their stories.

The Blue Heron Inn is far from home but I am hoping we can make another visit happen soon.
