Description: Back Porch Oyster Bar Restaurant is inspired by coastal North Carolina cuisine, our seafood is fine dining in a fun atmosphere. Our menu runs the gamut from simple fried catfish to Ahi tuna tartare, pan seared Chilean Sea Bass in a lemon beurre blanc, and cold water lobster tails. We also have a wide selection of cold water oysters from Northeastern U.S. and Canada. Yes you can find great seafood in the North Georgia Mountains!!

Food was good, especially the calamari appetizer, but the entree's are way overpriced for what you get. For example, the shrimp and Gorgonzola linguine was $20, which is all you get. Salad was $6.50 extra, and no bread is offered. As a comparison, Poor Richard's just down the road in Gainesville will give you almost that same entree for $14.99, which will include your choice of salad and fresh baked bread and it is every bit as good (and has more shrimp in it to boot!). Just sayin'. We won't go back for dinner, but may stop by for a drink and the appetizer, which was fairly priced. Worst of all, in the middle of wine country, there was not a single local wine offered. C'mon y'all - you want people to buy local and eat local, so where is the local grape? Don't say it's because the wine isn't good - we know better than that.

On Saturday November 9th my family and I (2 children with us) were waiting to be seated. The six people (4 white, 2 black) mentioned in the previous review were next to us. They were totally intoxicated, extremely loud and embarrassingly profane (related used of the "F" word). We are regulars at The Back Porch and can attest to the fact that people of color are not only welcome, but regularly present. On the night in question we were seated near 4 people if color and another couple of color. We appreciated the decision of the management not to admit loud, uncontrollable intoxicated people. Our children were subjected that night to the epitome of crude behavior. Thank goodness it was a brief encounter. Mega kudos to The Back Porch for providing our family with an enjoyable dining experience along side people if ALL colors who know how to acceptably behave in public. The food, service and atmosphere ( thank heavens) were superb!

Went here with a group of 6 people for dinner (4 white, 2 black). We were told that there was a 30 minute wait, so we went across the street and had a beer/wine while we waited. When we got back to The Back Porch, we were told it would be another 30 minutes. We could see that there were a lot of empty tables inside, but we were told that they didn't have enough waitstaff even though it was a SATURDAY and a football night. The old guy who was telling us all of this (I guess the owner) did not even look our black friends in the eye. He threatened to call the police on us. At this point there was no way I would have eaten there under any circumstances, and we left. We found a much friendlier place to eat and spend our money, and I will not go back to TBP again. What made it even worse was that one of our friends was visiting from Canada and could only shake his head and say he'd never seen anything like it in his life. For the first time, I was embarrassed to be a Georgian.

Our group of 6 went on a Wednesday evening for a birthday. It was a great evening. The staff (and owners) were very friendly and accommodating. The beer & wine list was impressive, and the food was awesome. We had called ahead for reservations, and practically as soon as we sat down they brought out a big bowl of crab dip and pita triangles - which everyone agreed were awesome. We all enjoyed our meals and several ordered desserts. Admittedly they were not very busy, but all the staff was very friendly and the service was top notch. Anytime we're in Dahlonega this is one place we can always count on for a good meal.

We headed over for lunch. It was not very busy and the staff was very friendly. The Crab Bisque was excellent, the Oyster appetizer was very good. Finally the Cuban sandwich was excellent. We had a nice lunch with seafood North Georgia. Who knew?
